Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of our busy production workshop.
We design and manufacture bespoke exhibition stands, experiential activations, retail displays, event installations, signage and custom-built scenic elements for brands and agencies across the UK and Europe.
This is a hands-on management role. We're looking for somebody with a strong background in exhibition, event, scenic, shopfitting or bespoke joinery production who can organise a busy workshop, manage a team and ensure projects leave the workshop on time and to a high standard.
You'll work closely with our project and design teams, taking projects from drawings and concepts through manufacture, pre-build, packing and installation.
The role
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the workshop and production team.
- Planning workshop workloads across multiple live projects.
- Allocating work to carpenters, fabricators and production staff.
- Producing material and cutting requirements for upcoming projects.
- Ensuring materials are ordered in sufficient time for production.
- Monitoring projects against production deadlines and budgets.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship and finish.
- Carrying out quality checks before projects leave the workshop.
- Managing pre-builds and test assemblies.
- Making sure jobs are packed and prepared correctly for transport and installation.
- Working closely with project managers to identify potential production issues early.
- Managing workshop stock, tools, machinery and consumables.
- Ensuring machinery is maintained and used correctly.
- Maintaining good housekeeping and an organised workshop.
- Managing workshop health & safety and safe working practices.
- Supporting and developing workshop staff.
- Getting hands-on with fabrication and installation when required.
- Occasionally attending installations in the UK and Europe where appropriate.
What we're looking for
Ideally, you'll have experience within exhibitions, experiential events, scenic fabrication, retail displays, shopfitting or bespoke joinery.
You should have:
- Experience managing a team or supervising a workshop or production team.
- An understanding of scenic finishing, graphics and how different production disciplines come together.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage several jobs simultaneously.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make practical decisions quickly.
- High standards and excellent attention to detail.
- A good understanding of workshop health & safety.
- A full UK driving licence.
Experience with CNC production, exhibition systems, electrical/LED integration, metalwork or CAD would be advantageous but isn't essential.
The person
We're looking for someone who takes ownership of the workshop.
You'll need to be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where projects can range from straightforward exhibition graphics and displays to completely bespoke branded structures and experiential builds.
You should be the sort of person who can look at a designer's concept and immediately start thinking:
How are we going to build it? How long will it take? What materials do we need? Who is going to make it? And how do we make sure it's ready for install?
In return, you'll have considerable responsibility for how our production operation runs and the opportunity to influence how we develop and improve the workshop.
Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
