Clark Wood are currently recruiting for an experienced Accounts Manager to join a growing and ambitious firm of Chartered Accountants based in Exeter.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Manager, Client Manager, Accounts Senior or Assistant Manager looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and expanding accountancy practice.
Working as part of an experienced accounts team, you will manage a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses (OMBs), SMEs and private clients, providing a full range of accounting services including statutory accounts, management accounts, VAT, bookkeeping and tax compliance.
The role offers excellent client exposure, genuine progression opportunities and the chance to work closely with business owners, providing valuable accounting advice and support.

As an Accounts Manager, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients and ensuring a high-quality accounting service is delivered.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a diverse portfolio of clients including owner-managed businesses, SMEs and limited companies.
- Preparing and reviewing statutory year-end accounts and financial statements.
- Overseeing management accounts preparation and providing insight into business performance.
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, bookkeeping and self-assessment tax returns.
- Reviewing corporation tax computations and liaising with tax specialists where required.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients, handling queries and providing proactive accounting advice.
- Building and maintaining strong long-term client relationships.
- Supporting clients with business growth, tax planning and compliance requirements.
- Reviewing work completed by Accounts Assistants and junior members of the team.
- Mentoring and developing junior staff through guidance, training and support.
- Identifying opportunities to add value through additional services and advisory support.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice.
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
- Strong knowledge of accounts preparation, management accounts and UK accounting standards.
- Experience working with owner-managed businesses and SMEs.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong client relationships.
- Experience reviewing work and supporting junior team members.
- ACA / ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.
