Artifex Homes is looking for an experienced and reliable Carpenter to join our team, working across high-quality residential construction projects throughout Hertfordshire.
The role will involve a mixture of first and second fix carpentry, working on projects including extensions, full property renovations, loft conversions and new-build homes.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, has excellent attention to detail and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider site team.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out first fix carpentry, including stud walls, floor joists, roof structures, door linings and associated structural timberwork.
- Carry out second fix carpentry, including doors, skirting boards, architraves, window boards and ironmongery.
- Installation of timber flooring, stairs and other internal joinery where required.
- Carry out general carpentry and finishing works throughout residential projects.
- Read and work accurately from architectural drawings and specifications.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Foremen and other trades.
- Ensure work is completed to a high standard and within agreed project timescales.
- Identify potential issues and communicate these promptly to the Project Manager.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
- Look after company tools, equipment and materials.
- Follow site health & safety procedures and company policies.
- Represent Artifex Homes professionally when working in clients' homes and occupied properties.
Experience & Skills
The successful candidate should:
- Have strong experience in both first and second fix carpentry.
- Have experience working on residential construction projects.
- Produce consistently high-quality workmanship.
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Be able to work independently and manage their workload effectively.
- Be comfortable working as part of a larger construction team.
- Be reliable, punctual and professional.
- Have good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Be confident reading drawings and specifications.
- Have a good understanding of current construction methods and standards.
Requirements
- Relevant carpentry experience and/or recognised carpentry qualification.
- Own tools.
- Full UK driving licence and transport.
- Ability to travel to projects throughout Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
This is a self employed position and pay will depend on experience. All work will be in and around Welwyn Garden City and surrounding areas.
Pay: £40,000.00-£43,000.00 per year
