Personal Care Assistant
Location: Shillington, Bedfordshire
Pay: £16.09 per hour (employed) | £20.14 per hour (self-employed)
Contract: Part-Time, Permanent
About the Role
The Disability Resource Centre is supporting the recruitment for a dedicated Personal Assistant / Carer to support a cheerful and active 23-year-old man with severe learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and physical disabilities. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while helping someone enjoy a fulfilling and independent life.
No previous care experience is required, as full training is provided. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine desire to support others.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medication
- Assist with personal care and dressing
- Support therapy and sensory activities
- Accompany and assist on fun outings such as trips to the park, cinema, seaside, horse riding, and water-based activities
- Help with swimming sessions in hydrotherapy pools
- Work alongside another dedicated carer

Available Hours
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
- 7:00am – 9:15am
- 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Thursday & Friday
- 7:00am – 9:15am
- 4:00pm – 8:15pm
Weekends
- Flexible hours between 8:00am and 8:00pm
- Saturday availability preferred
Hours
- Minimum of 31.75 hours per week, with additional flexible weekend hours available
Additional Hours
- Occasional cover on Tuesdays (9:00am – 4:00pm) during annual leave or sickness absence
About You
You will be compassionate, patient, dependable, punctual, and organised, with a positive and proactive approach. You should be comfortable taking initiative, motivating others, and supporting a wide range of activities. Confidence around horses and in aquatic environments, although swimming ability is not essential. Applicants should be physically fit due to moving & handling requirements involved.
Essential Requirements
· Fluent English with the ability to read and understand care and therapy plans
· Full UK driving licence
· Willingness to receive training and learn how to safely drive a vehicle used to transport a wheelchair and specialist equipment
· Right to work in the UK
