The successful candidate will be expected to:
Deliver high-quality clinical care to adults and children with sickle cell disease, thalassaemia and other inherited red cell disorders across outpatient, inpatient and day-unit settings under consultant supervision.
Participate in specialist haemoglobinopathy clinics, including new patient, annual review, hydroxycarbamide monitoring and joint obstetric-haemoglobinopathy clinics.Support the management of transfusion programmes, therapeutic red cell exchange and iron chelation therapy, including attendance at specialist multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
Contribute to the care of inpatients with complex red cell disorders and acute sickle cell complications. Develop expertise in interpreting haemoglobinopathy investigations, including haemoglobin electrophoresis, HPLC and newborn screening results, working closely with laboratory teams.
Lead the development and implementation of a structured paediatric-to-adult transition pathway, including establishing a transition clinic and developing patient information resources.
Attend and actively contribute to local, regional and national haemoglobinopathy MDT meetings.Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, research and service development projects, including regional Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC) initiatives.
Teach and support the education of medical students, junior doctors and other healthcare professionals.
Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with Trust policies relating to governance, safeguarding, infection prevention and information governance.
Maintain a professional development portfolio, participate in annual appraisal and support progression towards relevant specialist training and examinations where applicable.
