We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to oversee our transport operation, ensuring our fleet, drivers and transport systems remain safe, compliant and efficient.
This is a key role within the business, responsible for maintaining the highest standards of transport compliance while supporting the wider operation. We're looking for someone who enjoys being part of the team, builds strong relationships with drivers and colleagues, and is happy to get stuck in when needed.
The Role
As our Transport Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with our Operator Licence obligations and all relevant transport legislation.
You'll oversee a varied fleet comprising:
- Tippers
- Skip wagons
- Hook loaders
- Grab wagons
- Articulated lorries
- Walking floor vehicles
Working closely with the transport office, workshop, drivers and management team, you'll ensure the fleet operates safely, efficiently and in full compliance with all legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all Operator Licence requirements.
- Maintain compliance with DVSA regulations, drivers' hours and Working Time Directive legislation.
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, servicing and MOT planning.
- Manage driver compliance, licence checks, CPC requirements and associated records.
- Monitor transport compliance and identify opportunities to improve standards and efficiency.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
- Develop and maintain transport policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the transport office, workshop and operational teams.
- Promote a positive culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement.
- Support the wider business and contribute wherever required.
About You
We're looking for someone who is organised, approachable and leads by example.
You'll have:
- A valid Transport Manager CPC.
- Excellent knowledge of Operator Licence compliance and UK transport legislation.
- Experience managing HGV fleets and drivers.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive, practical approach to problem solving.
- The confidence to challenge where necessary while building positive working relationships.
- A willingness to be part of the wider team and support the business beyond the day-to-day requirements of the role.
Experience within demolition, waste management, recycling or construction would be advantageous but is not essential.
