Job Title: Electrical Highways Operative
Salary: £35,000.00 - £55,000.00
Location: Coleshill
Shift: 40 Hrs (Mon-Fri Days)
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Highways Operative to join our Highways Street Lighting team. This is a hands-on operational role responsible for delivering essential street lighting maintenance services across the local area and supporting wider highway operations when required.
You will play a key role in ensuring highway lighting assets are safe, reliable and maintained to a high standard. Working as part of a skilled team, you will help deliver high-quality services while maintaining excellent standards of health, safety, and customer service.
Key responsibilities
As an Electrical Highways Operative, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out routine and cyclical street lighting maintenance
- Installing, replacing and maintaining lighting columns, including excavation and ducting works
- Diagnosing electrical faults and completing effective repairs
- Responding to emergency call-outs, including out-of-hours requirements when required
- Making sites safe and completing temporary or permanent repairs
- Supporting winter maintenance operations as required
- Completing work records and instructions using handheld technology
- Managing materials and equipment to support efficient delivery of works
- Ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors and customers
- Representing the organisation professionally while working on site

About you
You will be a reliable, safety-focused operative who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship. You will enjoy working outdoors, solving problems and being part of a supportive team environment.
Essential skills and qualifications:
- Electrical qualification (HERS / HEA)
- G39 qualification
- Lantra T1 & T2
- CSCS card
- Abrasive Wheels qualification
- Slinger Banksman qualification
- Strong commitment to health and safety
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- High attention to detail and quality standards
Desirable experience and qualifications:
- Previous experience working on street lighting maintenance contracts
- L2 Winter Maintenance qualification
- Class 2 licence with CPC
- MEWP or HIAB experience
- Telescopic Handler qualification
- EUSR 1 & 2
- NRSWA qualification
