About Us:
You First Support Services are recruiting for Support Workers, in Street, to support a young man with severe learning disability, who is moving into his own home.
We are looking for enthusiastic and adaptable individuals to join our friendly, forward-thinking team.
About the Role:
You will be working 24-hour shifts including a sleep-in, providing personalised support tailored to each individual.
You will provide person-centred support to C, helping him follow his daily routine; support to carry out household tasks and help C to cook healthy, freshly cooked meals.
The role requires patience, creativity, flexibility, and a calm, friendly approach. You will support C’s independence while ensuring he feels comfortable, safe, and happy in familiar routines and environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Allow C time to explore activities in his own way without rushing him.
- Avoid over-directing; instead encourage natural play and participation.
- Engage enthusiastically with imaginative play such as recycling and rubbish.
- Supporting C as he discovers and develops new activities outside of the home and making new friends.
- Support activities C enjoys, including: working at the farm; baking and cooking; computer based play, e.g. watching YouTube; playing creatively with everyday items
- Use a calm, gentle tone and relaxed body language.
- Create a safe, low-pressure environment where C feels comfortable.
Personal Care Support
Although C is capable of most aspects of personal care, he needs encouragement and supervision to ensure it is done to a good standard and needs help with some aspects of intimate personal hygiene.
Key Skills & Qualities Required:
- Patience and understanding
- Enthusiastic and adaptable people
- Knowledge of signing or willingness to learn
- Confident working 24-hour shifts with sleep-in
- Driver with UK full licence
- Creativity and playfulness
- Flexibility to follow Cam’s interests
- Calm and gentle communication style
- Ability to encourage independence
