Core Prescribing Solutions delivers high-quality clinical pharmacy services to GP practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), GP Federations. We work at scale within primary care, supporting medicines optimisation, clinical governance, workforce development and patient-centred care. We are now seeking an experienced, motivated and visionary Chief Medical Officer to join our senior leadership team and help shape the future of our clinical services.
The Role
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides senior medical leadership, clinical governance oversight and strategic direction across the organisation. Working closely with the Board of Directors, senior leadership team, GPs and clinical pharmacists, the CMO ensures our services are safe, effective, innovative and fully compliant with PCN DES, GMS, PMS and APMS contractual requirements.
This is a pivotal role with national influence, offering the opportunity to drive innovation in primary care, support large-scale clinical pharmacy and other GMS services and contribute to service design, education, governance and quality improvement.
The role will evolve in line with business growth and the strengths of the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert medical leadership and strategic advice to the Board of Directors
- Lead and oversee clinical governance, patient safety and quality assurance frameworks
- Ensure compliance with PCN DES, GMS/PMS/APMS contracts and regulatory standards
- Provide professional leadership, supervision and development for clinical pharmacists and senior clinical staff
- Build and maintain strong relationships with GPs, PCNs, NHS England, regulators and key stakeholders
- Lead the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, protocols and SOPs
- Support workforce development, CPD, creation of SOPs and frameworks,prescribing pathways and education at scale
- Drive innovation, service improvement and efficient clinical operations
- Act as Designated Medical Practitioner for prescribing and advanced practice pathways
- Represent the organisation at national forums, conferences and external events
- Contribute to audit, research, publications and media engagement where required
Person Specification – Essential
- Fully GMC-registered GP in good standing
- On GMC Specialist Register
- Relevant College membership/fellowship
- Additional postgraduate qualification
- Extensive leadership experience within complex healthcare environments
- Strong knowledge of PCN DES, GMS/PMS/APMS contracts
- Proven track record in clinical governance, process development, patient safety and quality improvement
- Experience leading, training and supervising clinicians at scale
- Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into action
- Digitally confident with strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- High levels of integrity, resilience, emotional intelligence and professionalism
- Eligible to work in the UK, able to travel nationally, and hold a valid UK driving licence
