Location: Nottingham / Derby / Hybrid
Salary: £25,500 – £30,000
Hours: 35 hours per week
Holiday: 26 days + Bank Holidays (plus your birthday off after one year of service)
We are seeking a motivated Family Paralegal to join our team in Nottingham/Derby, supporting our work in both private and public family law, including child arrangements, care proceedings, and other Children Act matters. You’ll work closely under supervision of solicitors, helping manage cases, interact with clients, and support court processes.
- Assist solicitors in managing their family law caseloads (private law and care proceedings)
- Draft correspondence, witness statements, applications, and court documents
- Prepare court bundles and upload to the Court Portal
- Conduct legal research and summarise findings to fee-earners
- Communicate with clients, barristers, and third parties (e.g. social services)
- Maintain and organise case files and ensure documents are correctly stored
- Time recording and billing as required
- Assist with expert instructions, disclosure, and evidence gathering
- Attend court hearings, client meetings, and conferences as required
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory obligations
Essential:
- Experience in a legal environment (preferably in family law)
- Good drafting, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work methodically and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management systems
- Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential matters
Desirable:
- Law degree / legal qualification (LLB, GDL, LPC, or equivalent)
- Experience in public law / care proceedings
- Familiarity with Court Portal, bundledoc or bundle-building software
- Knowledge of legal aid processes in family law
- Experience in client interviewing and case progression
