Role Overview
The Refurbishment Roofing Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate quotations, tenders, and commercial pricing for roofing refurbishment works including responsive repairs, planned works, social housing programmes, void refurbishments, specialist roofing works, and larger refurbishment projects.
This role requires strong practical roofing knowledge, commercial awareness, and an understanding of refurbishment complexity, including live environments, access requirements, hidden defects, sequencing, and operational risks.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of pitched roofing repairs, refurbishment roofing systems, flat roofing systems, responsive maintenance works, and planned roofing programmes. They should also be commercially aware, technically strong, and comfortable working within a forward-thinking business that is actively embracing digital innovation, including software systems, AI-led processes, drone technology, and modern reporting tools.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Tendering
- Review surveys, tender packs, drawings, client enquiries, and project specifications.
- Carry out measured surveys and occasional site visits where required.
- Produce detailed take-offs, BOQs, schedules, and full cost estimates.
- Price labour, materials, plant, scaffold, access requirements, subcontractor works, and overhead allowances.
- Prepare accurate estimates for refurbishment, responsive, planned, and specialist roofing works.
- Ensure all tender submissions are commercially accurate, competitive, and aligned to margin expectations.
- Follow up submitted tenders and maintain strong client communication.
Commercial & Risk Awareness
- Assess risks associated with live properties, access limitations, hidden defects, sequencing, and occupied environments.
- Build suitable overhead, labour, and profitability allowances into estimates.
- Support pricing of variations, remedial works, and commercial adjustments.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost efficiencies.
Client, Supplier & Operational Liaison
- Work closely with clients, suppliers, scaffold providers, subcontractors, and specialist roofing manufacturers.
- Obtain competitive supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Liaise with Operations Managers, Contracts Managers, and delivery teams to support smooth project handovers.
- Maintain strong commercial and client relationships.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Support improved estimating processes, reporting accuracy, and digital workflows.
- Be adaptable to modern systems and operational improvements.
- Contribute to a business culture focused on smarter working, innovation, and efficiency.
