Journey’s Wine & Bistro is a small independent family-run wine bar and bistro in the heart of Guildford.
We are passionate about good wine, good hospitality and creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere for our guests. Our wine selection includes more than 140 wines, alongside cocktails, spirits, mocktails, soft drinks, juices, teas and coffees.
We are now looking for a friendly, confident and enthusiastic Bartender & Wine Host to join our team.
For us, personality is just as important as experience. We want someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality, loves talking to people and, most importantly, has a real interest in wine.
What the role involves
You will be one of the main faces of our bar, welcoming guests and making sure they feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Welcoming guests in a friendly and professional way
* Serving and recommending wines from our extensive wine selection
* Helping customers choose wines according to their taste
* Preparing and serving cocktails, spirits, mocktails, soft drinks, juices, teas and coffees
* Taking food and drink orders
* Providing attentive table and bar service
* Talking to customers and helping create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere
* Keeping the bar clean, organised and well presented
* Preparing the bar for service and maintaining stock during the shift
* Working together with the rest of our small team
* Helping turn first-time visitors into regular customers
The person we are looking for
We would love to meet someone who is:

* Passionate about wine or genuinely interested in learning more about it
* Able to recommend drinks rather than simply take orders
* Reliable and punctual
* Professional and well presented

* Someone who genuinely enjoys working in hospitality
Previous experience in a wine bar, cocktail bar, restaurant or similar hospitality environment would be an advantage.
Good wine knowledge is particularly welcome, but attitude and a genuine passion for wine and customer service are extremely important to us.
About the workplace
Journey’s is a small, cosy and welcoming venue in central Guildford.
During the colder months, most of the service takes place inside our warm and comfortable bar and bistro, where everything needed for service is close at hand.
We also have an outdoor terrace which is popular during the warmer months.
Because we are a small family-run business, we value people who take pride in the place they work and enjoy building relationships with regular customers.
Hours
Shifts are mainly:
Monday to Thursday, approximately 5:00pm–11:00pm
Hours may vary depending on business needs and staff availability.
