Porter / General Assistant — Temporary, Reading
Talent Core is looking for reliable, flexible people to join our Reading temp bench as a Porter / General Assistant — covering kitchens, bars, bakeries, restaurants and events across the city. No experience necessary; full training given on-site by the venue you're placed with.
What the Role Covers
This is a general-purpose support role — exact duties depend on which setting you're placed in on a given shift. Typical duties include:
- Kitchen / Catering — washing up and pot-wash, keeping prep and service areas clean and stocked, basic food prep support, waste and recycling management.
- Bakery — moving and stacking trays and stock, keeping the bakery and front area clean and tidy, supporting bakers/pastry chefs during busy production periods, restocking display cases.
- Bar — glass collecting, restocking and cellar support, keeping the bar area clean and presentable, basic cellar/keg changing once trained.
- Restaurant / Events — clearing and resetting tables, supporting front-of-house during service, moving furniture and equipment for events, general venue upkeep.
Across every setting, the core of the job is the same: keep things clean, stocked, and running smoothly so the trained team can focus on their part of service.
What We're Looking For
- Reliable and punctual — this role only works if we can count on you to show up when booked.
- Comfortable on your feet and keeping pace during a busy shift — the role is physically active.
- A team player who takes direction well, especially in a new setting each time.
- Right to work in the UK.
- No experience or qualifications required — we're looking for attitude and reliability over a CV.

- Flexible, short-notice shifts — pick up work that fits around study, another job, or whatever else is going on.
