Make a real difference when it matters most
Every day, more people in our community are turning to foodbanks for support. Behind every referral is someone facing a difficult, often overwhelming situation — and that’s where you come in.
At Citizens Advice Stroud and Cotswold Districts, working in partnership with South Cotswold Foodbanks, we’re looking for a compassionate and skilled Foodbank Adviser to work alongside people during some of the hardest moments in their lives empowering them to manage their challenges.
Why this role is different
This is not a standard advice role, you’ll work with people facing complex, emotional, and sometimes high-risk situations — where the path forward isn’t always clear. You’ll need to think on your feet, use your judgement, and guide clients with care and clarity.
You’ll be:
- Supporting clients who may be vulnerable, isolated, or in crisis
- Helping people move from immediate hardship toward longer-term stability
- Working directly in the community, including outreach at Foodbanks
Your work will directly contribute to reducing reliance on emergency food provision and improving people’s financial wellbeing and resilience.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
As an adviser, you'll be working with clients via telephone, email and face-to-face at our Cirencester office and our Tetbury/Cirencester Foodbanks, or other appropriate settings in the South Cotswold area.
You’ll manage a varied and meaningful caseload, including:
- Providing end-to-end advice, from initial assessment through to ongoing support
- Helping clients understand their options and make informed decisions
- Supporting benefit take-up and income maximisation
- Handling complex or sensitive cases with confidence and empathy
- Working closely with the Foodbank Debt Adviser and the wider team
- Keeping clear, accurate case records and meeting quality standards
You’ll also play a part in identifying wider issues affecting clients and feeding into campaigns that aim to create lasting change.
About you
You’ll bring experience, but just as importantly, the right mindset.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience in advice work and understands the challenges clients face
- Can confidently handle complex and sensitive situations
- Is calm, resilient, and able to support people in distress
- Communicates clearly and compassionately
- Is organised and able to manage a varied workload
- Can interpret complex information and explain it simply
- Is comfortable working independently and as part of a team
What we offer
- ✅ 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (pro rata)
- ✅ 7.75% employer pension contribution depending on 5.5% employee contribution (after 3 months)
- ✅ Flexible and community-based working
- ✅ Ongoing training and development
- ✅ A supportive, collaborative team
- ✅ A role where your work has a visible, lasting impact
Additional information
You’ll be based across:
- Our Cirencester office
- Local Foodbank locations – Tetbury and Cirencester
- Occasional work from our Stroud office and other South Cotswolds outreaches as required
The role is line managed by Citizens Advice Stroud & Cotswold Districts, with partnership working and reporting to the South Cotswold Foodbank.
