Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Technical Author to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating clear, comprehensive, and user-friendly technical documentation that supports our locomotive products and services. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Technical Author will ensure all technical manuals, user guides, service instructions, and engineering documentation are accurate, clear, and compliant with industry standards. The Technical Author works closely with engineering, manufacturing, service, and quality teams to produce materials that support both internal operations and customer requirements.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
· Produce and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, service guides, maintenance instructions, training material, and engineering specifications.
· Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content for internal and external stakeholders.
· Collaborate with engineers, service teams, and manufacturing staff to gather accurate technical information.
· Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
· Review and update existing documentation to reflect product changes, improvements, or new releases.
· Assist in developing visual aids, diagrams, and schematics to enhance technical communication and training.
· Maintain document version control and ensure accessibility for relevant teams.
· Support training and onboarding by providing accurate technical content and reference materials.
· Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes and standards.
· Compliance and verification planning.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Degree or diploma in Engineering Technical Communications, or a related discipline. Demonstrable experience in a similar role / environment with industry knowledge will also be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KEY COMPETENCIES
Proven experience in technical writing, within engineering, manufacturing, or heavy machinery sectors.
Strong understanding of engineering concepts, mechanical/electrical/software systems, and technical standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Proficiency in documentation tools (e.g., MS Office, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical data.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple documentation projects.
Accuracy and attention to detail in technical documentation.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Clear, concise communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Self-motivated and able to work independently under deadlines.
Must be Eligible to work in the UK.
Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
