Job Description
Residential support worker at our Residential Children's Home specialising in EBD and challenging behaviour. The home will cater to young people ages 10-17 with Emotional behavioural difficulties due to multiple challenges.
The main purpose of this role is to ensure the safety and development of the children and young people in your care. To actively promote the rights of young people, providing them with excellent targeted care which falls in line with the policies and procedures of the organisation, and meets their individual needs. To ensure that the home is both homely and safe, adhering to the organisations Health and Safety procedures and protocol. Help children and young people achieve their potential, developing strength, building resilience and strengthening areas of weakness. Manage challenging behaviours in a positive and therapeutic manner, manage disclosures and safeguarding issues. Working within the Equal Opportunities and Quality Assurance Framework, maintaining confidentiality of service user information. Undertaking delegated responsibilities and working proactively to ensure the best possible outcomes for the young people.
Accountable to;
Staff will be accountable to their homes Deputy and Registered Manager, with overall accountability to the organisations Manager and Directors.
Responsibilities
· To promote the safety, protection and welfare of each young person
· Encourage development
· Encourage the young person’s sense of self, promoting individual interests and attitudes.
· Implement firm consistent boundaries that are both fair and respectful, and agreed by all members of staff.
· Monitor and act upon any medical/health concerns, referring to the appropriate external services where necessary
· Promote healthy living
· Administer medication
· Accurate record keeping
· Promote attachments and positive relationships with the young people that will aid their sense of safety/security
· Organise individual and group activities that are both age/ability appropriate
· Support young people on group holidays
· Support young people with their transition into/out of the home; this will include the planning and preparation of admissions and discharges, professional negotiations.
· Prepare meals
· Help young people to develop and sustain external social networks with adults, young people and services.
· Observe, assess, and report on the young people’s daily behaviour
· Develop a homely environment that is safe and secure for the young people, ensuring maintenance issues are reported, and that health and safety checks of the home are undertaken regularly as required.
· Supervision of young people at all times, creating a safe and harmonious environment which is conducive to the positive personal development of each young person
· Abide by guidance and legislation such as the Equality Act (2010) etc
· Abide by the companies policies and procedures
· Encourage and promote educational attainment
· Undertake routine administrative tasks, providing written reports to external stakeholders
· Maintain and be aware of all young people’s and homes files
Team Work
· Take part in team meeting, Team around the child meetings, LAC Reviews, PEP, ECHP.
· Ensure that all children and young people have care and placement plans, which are reviewed and updated as and when necessary.
· To work as a team ensuring that all statutory framework, policies and procedures of the organisation are followed
· To work in an open and transparent way with the organisation and external stakeholders.
· Work alongside and develop positive professional relationships with social workers, specialists, police, and other professional agencies.
· To support the staff team
· To take part in supervision by senior staff
· Undertake appropriate training as and when required by the organisation
· To have/to be placed on a Diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare, No equivalents.
· To manage and receive complaints in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation.
· Managing and responsible for the day to day petty cash

· Ability to manage difficult and abusive behaviour
