We are currently looking for a skilled and reliable Reinstatement Operative with experience in reinstating groundworks to a high standard. The ideal candidate will be confident working with hot-lay tarmac, slabs, block paving, pavers and other common surfacing materials.
You will be working as part of a small construction team assisting with the installation of street furniture, including bus shelters, steel structures and small format digital advertising screens. The role will involve excavation, preparation, reinstatement and finishing works across a range of sites.
This role will at times require travel to sites nationwide. Lodging and reasonable overnight expenses will be provided where required, along with the use of a company vehicle.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out groundworks and reinstatement works to a neat, safe and professional standard.
- Prepare, lay and finish hot-lay tarmac/asphalt surfaces.
- Lay and reinstate slabs, paving slabs, pavers, kerbs, edgings and block paving.
- Carry out hand and machine excavations as required.
- Prepare sub-bases, level areas, compact materials and set out works to line and level.
- Assist with the installation of bus shelters, steel structures and digital advertising screens.
- Identify underground services and use CAT scanning equipment where required.
- Work safely around underground apparatus and follow safe excavation techniques.
- Use handheld tools, power tools, small plant and excavation equipment safely.
- Manage allocated workloads and complete works within agreed timescales.
- Create and maintain a safe site in line with the Construction Phase Plan, RAMS, site segregation, signing and guarding requirements.
- Work within company health and safety policies, legislation and relevant codes of practice.
- Maintain and safeguard tools and equipment on site, ensuring they are stored securely at the end of each shift.
- Leave each site clean, tidy and presentable to reflect the company’s standards and reputation.
Who We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in groundworks, reinstatement, tarmac, slabs, pavers or block paving.
- Experience finishing groundworks in materials such as slabs, pavers, hot-lay tarmac or floated concrete.
- Good understanding of excavation, sub-structure works and safe digging practices.
- Competent in identifying underground services and using CAT scanning equipment.
- Ability to use power tools such as hydraulic breakers, disc saws and grinding wheels.
- Competent using appropriate handheld tools, machinery and excavation plant.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Reliable, punctual and good with timekeeping.
- A strong team player who can work well with others to achieve targets.
- Ability to problem solve on site and use initiative to keep works moving safely and efficiently.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and stay away when required.
Desirable Qualifications and Training
- SSSTS training advantageous.
- NPORS Excavator card desirable but not essential.
- NRSWA / Street Works qualification desirable.
- Traffic Management knowledge and understanding of correct procedures desirable.
Working Hours
Working hours can vary depending on the work schedule. General working hours are usually between 6am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Night works may sometimes be required to meet project demands and will be requested in advance where possible.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £15.00-£18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 50 per week
