A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Crumpsall is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join its specialist SEN resource base on a full-time, long-term basis.
The resource base provides targeted and individualised support for primary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), enabling children to access learning within a nurturing and structured environment while remaining part of the wider school community.
The successful candidate will work closely with the resource base teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide personalised academic, communication, social and emotional support. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting children with additional needs to make meaningful progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils within the SEN resource base.
- Adapt activities and learning approaches to meet individual needs and abilities.
- Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication needs, learning difficulties and associated SEND.
- Help pupils access both the specialist resource base provision and, where appropriate, learning and activities within the mainstream classroom.
- Support pupils with communication and interaction, using strategies such as PECS, Makaton or other AAC approaches where appropriate.
- Assist pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, social development and positive behaviour.
- Support the implementation of EHCP outcomes, individual learning plans and behaviour/support strategies.
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive relationships with peers.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, external professionals and other support staff.
- Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Ideally have previous experience supporting primary-aged children with SEND, including ASC, communication needs or learning difficulties.
- Be calm, patient and nurturing, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Be confident supporting children with emotional regulation and behaviours associated with additional needs.
- Be proactive, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
- Have a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND and promoting inclusion.
- Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability.
Desirable, but not essential
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification.
- Experience working within an SEN resource base, specialist provision or mainstream primary SEND setting.
- PECS, Makaton, BSL or other AAC training.
- Team Teach, MAPA or similar positive behaviour/de-escalation training.
