Graduate Academic Coach – Secondary School & Post-16 Transition Support

Step Into Teaching are working with a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Lichfield (WS13), Staffordshire to recruit a Graduate Academic Coach for the new academic year starting September 2026.
This exciting role is designed to support students during key educational transition points, including the move from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3, Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, and progression from GCSEs into Further Education, College, apprenticeships, and other post-16 pathways.
The school is seeking a motivated graduate who is passionate about raising aspirations, building academic confidence, and helping young people successfully navigate important stages of their educational journey. This position is ideal for graduates considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, careers guidance, youth work, counselling, mentoring, or wider educational support services.
The Opportunity:
- Based in Lichfield (WS13)
- Full-time role (Monday to Friday)
- September 2026 start
- £500 – £530 per week (term time only)

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Supporting students as they transition from primary to secondary education, helping them develop confidence, organisation, and effective study habits
- Working with Key Stage 3 students to build the academic and personal skills required for success at GCSE level
- Providing guidance and mentoring to Key Stage 4 students as they prepare for post-16 pathways, including college, sixth form, apprenticeships, and vocational routes
- Delivering targeted intervention sessions focused on academic progress, study skills, revision techniques, and independent learning
- Monitoring student engagement, attendance, and progress throughout key transition periods
- Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, careers advisers, and families to ensure students receive effective support
- Supporting students who may require additional academic, social, emotional, or pastoral guidance
Who We're Looking For:
- A recent graduate (2:2 or above preferred) in any subject area
- Passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential
- Strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
- Patient, empathetic, and proactive
- Interested in teaching, educational psychology, careers guidance, youth work, mentoring, counselling, or student support services
- Confident working with students from a range of backgrounds and abilities
- Committed to helping young people successfully navigate important educational transitions
