Business Development Manager — Mission Road Electrical
£30,000–£35,000 Basic | Uncapped Commission | Realistic £60–70k OTE Year One
Dorset / Hampshire / South West | Flexible working
The opportunity
Mission Road Electrical is a commercial electrical contractor operating across education, healthcare, facilities management and construction in Dorset, Hampshire and the South West. We've built a profitable, well-run business over six years and we're now entering a deliberate growth phase — with the longer-term goal of building a full M&E group through organic growth and acquisition.
This is the first dedicated sales hire in the business. That means you won't be inheriting someone else's patch or working within someone else's system. You'll be building the commercial function from the ground up, working directly with the Managing Director, and positioning yourself as a key person in something that's being built to scale.
Why this role pays well
We operate at strong gross margins — particularly in the education sector, where we have an established track record delivering projects for schools across the region. A BDM who can develop relationships with a multi-academy trust isn't opening one door — they're opening a pipeline of recurring project work across multiple sites.
The commission structure is straightforward: 5% of gross profit on every job you bring in, with no cap and no cliff edge. Based on our current project margins and average contract values, a BDM who lands two to three trust or FM relationships in year one is realistically looking at £60,000–£70,000 total earnings. Beyond that, the ceiling is genuinely yours to set.
What you'll actually be doing
You'll be identifying, approaching and building relationships with the decision-makers who commission electrical and M&E work — Estates Managers, Facilities Directors, Procurement leads, and Principal Contractors. Your primary sectors will be education, facilities management, healthcare and commercial construction.
This is a relationship-led, long-cycle sales role. You won't be closing deals on the first call. You'll be the kind of person who plays the long game, stays front of mind, and is the first call a client makes when a project lands.
Day to day that means prospecting through calls, LinkedIn and networking, attending site visits and client meetings, maintaining a clean pipeline, and working closely with the MD to price and convert opportunities.
What we're looking for
You'll have a track record of winning new business in a B2B environment — ideally within construction, M&E, facilities management, education or a related sector. You'll know how to navigate a procurement process, manage multiple stakeholders, and maintain relationships over a long sales cycle without losing momentum.
Beyond that, we care more about commercial instinct and work ethic than your CV. If you've consistently opened doors that others couldn't and you're frustrated by the constraints of where you are now, we want to talk to you.
The bigger picture
Mission Road is being built deliberately. The plan is a self-sustaining electrical business first, then growth into a full M&E group — mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing and heating, fire and security — with acquisition as a route to scale.
The person who joins now as BDM has a clear pathway into a senior commercial role as that group takes shape. We're not offering a job for life. We're offering a role in something that's going somewhere, for someone who wants to grow with it.
