SITE TECHNICIAN (FLOW MONITORING)
£26,500 per year, plus overtime, overnight allowances, yearly bonus and full City & Guilds accredited training
Permanent, full time. Based Huntigdon, working on contracts in the South East
Every spill, blockage and storm overflow in the country is now under scrutiny, and none of it can be managed without accurate data from inside the network. Somebody has to go down there and install the monitors that produce it.
That is what we do. It is not glamorous but it is genuinely important, and we will train you to do it properly.
ABOUT ENVIROMONTEL
We are a specialist environmental field services business. We install, maintain and certify the monitors and data loggers that tell water companies what is actually happening inside their networks, from live foul and storm sewers to rivers, reservoirs and culverts. That data is what allows our clients to understand their assets, build resilience and cut pollution.
The scale of it: more than 4,000 monitors maintained every month, over 100 vans on the road across the UK, and more than 240 people. We are accredited by CHAS, SMAS, Achilles and FORS, and certified to ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001. In plain terms, we do this properly and we do it safely.
THE ROLE
You will work in a small team installing and maintaining flow monitoring equipment across the UK.
A typical week involves:
Installing flow meters into live foul and storm water sewers
Making safe entry into and exit from manholes, including lowering crew members by winch
Cleaning, checking and servicing monitors already out in the network
Installing rain gauges, which involves working at height
Setting out Chapter 8 highway signage around your works
Taking responsibility for your own safety and for the safety of the people working alongside you
No two sites are the same, you will not be sitting still, and you will finish the week knowing exactly what you have achieved.
WHAT THIS JOB ASKS OF YOU
We would rather be straight with you now than at interview:
Our contracts are nationwide, so overnight stays away from home are part of the job. We give notice wherever we can, although occasionally it is short. Expect to be away around one or two nights a week.
Night work is required
Confined space entry is essential. You need to be physically fit and comfortable working underground
Drug and alcohol testing at induction [and periodically thereafter]
A full UK driving licence is essential (held for 2 years or more and 3 points or less on the license, no previous bans)
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Attitude first. We can teach the technical side, we cannot teach someone to turn up, look after their mates and do the job properly when nobody is watching.
Comfortable working outdoors, underground and at height
Reliable, conscientious and safety-minded, which in this line of work is not a figure of speech
Happy in a small team where everyone pulls their weight
A year in sewer networks is useful but not required. If you have come from drainage, CCTV survey, groundworks, utilities, highways, plant operation, grounds maintenance or the forces, you will pick this up quickly
A full driving license with no more than 3 points.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO ARRIVE WITH TICKETS
We have our own experienced training team delivering City & Guilds accredited training across the country, so confined space, Chapter 8 and the rest we will put you through. Full training is given to the right applicant.
WHAT YOU GET
£26,500 per year [plus overtime and overnight allowances], yearly bonus, company pension, gym membership, company events
City & Guilds accredited training, funded, with a team who deliver it in-house
A permanent job with a business that is growing rapidly with clear routes for progression for those who want it.
