CLdN Ports Killingholme wish to recruit a Workshop Manager to work within our busy and expanding engineering department. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and have a flexible, professional and pro-active approach to work.
Your role
- Lead, manage and develop a growing team of fitters and fabricators working in a busy workshop environment, with responsibility for workload planning, performance, quality & standards, competence and training.
- Take overall responsibility for the internal workshop, which carries out repairs and periodic maintenance of road trailers, containers and RoRo line equipment, including roll-trailers (mafi’s), skellies, cassettes and (clip-on) trestles.
- Deliver safe, efficient and compliant workshop services in line with company policies, standards and wider business requirements, with a strong focus on equipment availability, reliability and operational performance.
- Ensure equipment is serviced and maintained in accordance with the statutory regulations, such as LOLER, PUWER and manufacturer recommendations.
- Ensure policy compliance and the correct application of repair procedures and sound engineering principles.
- Liaise with operational and other key stakeholders to plan maintenance activities, maximise equipment availability and minimise disruption to operations.
- Develop and introduce policies, procedures and working practices that improve cost control, efficiency, quality and safety within the engineering department.
- Take part in and lead large-scale engineering and infrastructure projects, collaborating closely with key stakeholders to drive operational success.
- Manage related departmental administration, workshop records and stores procedures.
- Support the training and development of apprentices and the ongoing development and competence of employees.
- Carry out quality and workshop checks, manage inductions and ensure effective control of contractors.
- Maintain a flexible, dynamic and proactive approach to meet changing operational demands.
- Use a range of bespoke IT programs and business systems as required.
Your profile
- You have an HND or higher in mechanical engineering or electromechanics or equivalent demonstrable engineering experience.
- Proven experience leading and managing technicians or engineers within a busy workshop, maintenance or operational engineering environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to lead teams and work effectively with operational stakeholders.
- You preferably have experience with welding and electrics (to a lesser extent) to support your team.
- It is important that you have a good work ethic with good organisational skills and a positive approach to working safely.
- It is essential that you have a proactive approach towards problem solving, workload and time management with a good knowledge of Health and Safety.
- You will have good interpersonal and communication skills as well as proficiency with bespoke and Microsoft systems, such as Microsoft Office (Excel).
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics Navision and Ultimo would be advantageous.
- Ability to prioritise workload whilst working to tight timescales in accordance with company policies.
- A flexible approach to work is necessary as you will be expected to cover when required.
- Requires the ability to adapt and engage constructively with peers in other countries (primarily Belgium and Holland), travelling when occasionally required.

Experience:
- Managerial: 3 years (preferred)
- Mechanical engineering: 3 years (preferred)
