C Toms and Son Ltd is a family run boatyard working in both the fishing industry and the leisure sector. Offering both new build and refit work for the fishing industry as well as boat storage and repairs for yachts and small craft. Alongside the boatyard the company also owns and operates the Bodinnick car ferry and the Polruan passenger ferry.
About the Role:
Working as a Marine Operative and Lifting Assistant you will be an integral part of our vessel movements team. The role involves working across all aspects of vessel movements, from the planning and booking stage to escorting and towing on the water and assisting with lifting operations to both lift out and launch vessels on the shore. Day to day operations will mainly focus on commercial vessel movements and lifts up to 350 tonnes with seasonal variations in the leisure sector for lifting and launching yachts and small pleasure craft.
Previous experience afloat is essential, preferably dealing with commercial vessels up to 30metres in length and RYA Power Boat Level 2 is a must as a minimum qualification. Additional marine and lifting qualifications would be an advantage.
There is scope for the successful applicant to bring additional skills to the role, qualifications or experience in any of the following would be an advantage: crane driver, marine engineering, marine carpentry, welding, painting or project management for instance.
Responsibilities Include:
· Assisting with booking in vessels and planning lifts, including contact with customers.
· Carrying out and recording pre-lift or launch checks.
· Working alongside the lift manager to assist with the lifting out and launching of vessels either with the hoist, crane or on the slipway.
· Working alongside the lift manager to assist with moving and shoring of all vessels once on shore.
· Driving our own vessels to assist with activities afloat, including moving and towing vessels.
· Carrying out and recording pre-use checks on our own vessels and ensuring they are fueled and ready for use at all times.
· Carrying out and recording checks on all lifting equipment.
· To perform all aspects of a Marine Operative and Lifting Assistants duties, whilst following company policies and procedures.
· Being responsible for any equipment and PPE issued, including checking, cleaning and returning.
· Following company health and safety policy and working in a safe and tidy manner at all times.
· Working alongside welders, electricians, painters and other specialist trades on projects.
· To perform all aspects of a Marine Operative and Lifting Assistants duties, whilst following company policies and procedures.
· Being responsible for any equipment and PPE issued, including checking, cleaning and returning.
· Following company health and safety policy and working in a safe and tidy manner at all times.
· Attending training as and when required to maintain existing qualifications and develop new skills used within the business.
Pay: From £35,360.00 per year
