Chronicle Computing Ltd

Business Development Representative
We're looking for someone who can create opportunities.
Chronicle is a growing UK software company providing cloud-based workforce management, time & attendance and HR solutions to businesses across the UK.
We already have a strong flow of opportunities and plenty of tools and data to work with:
- Around 110 warm incoming sales leads every month
- A database of 10,000+ potential customers
- Technology that shows us which organisations are visiting and engaging with our website
- Email and SMS marketing capabilities
- LinkedIn and other social platforms
- An established marketing team
- Hundreds of existing customers
- Potential technology, referral and reseller partners
What we're looking for is someone with the energy, confidence and creativity to turn all of that into conversations, meetings and sales opportunities.
This isn't a role where you'll be handed the same cold-call list every morning.
We want someone who thinks about who we should be talking to, why we should be talking to them and the best way to reach them.
What you'll be doing
You'll work alongside our sales and marketing teams across inbound leads, outbound prospecting, customer engagement and partnerships.
Inbound & Sales Support
We generate around 110 warm incoming leads every month.
You'll help make sure those opportunities are contacted quickly and followed up properly.
You'll:
- Contact and qualify new enquiries
- Book software demonstrations and sales meetings
- Support the sales team with follow-up calls and emails
- Re-engage prospects after demonstrations
- Chase opportunities that have gone quiet
- Research prospects before sales meetings
- Keep CRM activity and next steps organised
Outbound Business Development
You'll also be expected to create opportunities yourself.
That could mean:
- Cold calling businesses from our database
- Using our website visitor technology to identify companies actively looking at Chronicle and targeting them intelligently
- Identifying specific industries that would be a good fit for Chronicle
- Building targeted prospect lists
- Creating industry-specific campaigns
- Following email campaigns with telephone activity
- Running email and SMS prospecting campaigns
- Using LinkedIn and other social platforms to identify and engage decision-makers
- Researching companies and finding the right people to approach
- Re-engaging historic leads and previous opportunities
We don't want someone simply making hundreds of random calls.
We want someone who can think:
"Who is showing interest? Who should we target? What's happening in this industry? Who is the right person? What message might get their attention?"
Then pick up the phone and do something about it.
Partnerships & Resellers
There's also an opportunity to help us develop new routes to market.
You could be:
- Identifying potential Chronicle resellers
- Approaching HR, payroll and workforce technology companies
- Finding potential referral partners
- Contacting consultants and complementary software providers
- Starting conversations with integration partners
- Researching new industries and routes to market
If you spot an opportunity we haven't thought of, we want to hear about it.
Existing Customers
Business development isn't only about finding new customers.
You'll also help us engage our existing customer base by:
- Calling customers and building relationships
- Identifying potential case studies
- Finding customers willing to provide testimonials
- Encouraging happy customers to review Chronicle on platforms such as G2
- Identifying potential upsell opportunities
- Helping reconnect customers with our Account Management team
The person we're looking for
The most important thing is that you're not scared to pick up the phone.
You don't need to be an aggressive salesperson. In fact, we'd rather you weren't.
You do need to be confident enough to call someone you've never spoken to, start a conversation and find out whether there's an opportunity.
You'll probably do well here if you:
- Are confident speaking to people
- Are naturally curious
- Have good commercial instincts
- Are creative about finding opportunities
- Are persistent and follow things through
- Can research companies and industries
- Know your way around LinkedIn and social media
- Can write a good prospecting email
- Are comfortable using CRM and sales technology
- Can manage multiple conversations and follow-ups
- Don't need someone telling you exactly what to do every hour
- Enjoy experimenting with different approaches
- Like measurable results
- Want to build a career in sales
Previous experience in B2B sales, SaaS, business development, recruitment, lead generation or technology would be useful, but we're more interested in finding someone with the right ability and attitude.
What does success look like?
Ultimately, we want you to generate qualified sales opportunities.
We don't believe that means blindly measuring how many calls you make.
We'll be interested in things like:
- Warm leads successfully contacted and qualified
- Qualified meetings and demonstrations booked
- Outbound opportunities created
- Dormant opportunities reactivated
- Website visitors converted into conversations
- New industries successfully targeted
- Partner and reseller conversations started
- Customer case studies generated
- Customer reviews secured
- Upsell opportunities identified
If you find a new way of generating good opportunities, even better.
Where can the role lead?
This role has genuine progression.
Someone who proves they can generate opportunities and understands our customers, product and market could progress into:
Account Management
Managing and growing a portfolio of existing Chronicle customers.
New Business Sales
Running demonstrations, managing opportunities and closing new business.
Business Development / Partnerships
Developing new markets, partnerships, integrations and reseller channels.
We're growing, and we'd much rather promote someone who's proved themselves than automatically recruit above them.
If you're ambitious, commercially minded and want the opportunity to build something rather than simply work through a call list, we'd like to hear from you.
Pay: £24,785.00-£27,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company events
- Company pension
- Free parking
- On-site parking
