Title: Kitchen Porter/Kitchen Assistant
Responsible to: Sous Chef
Main Duties
- Helping suppliers to unload deliveries of ingredients.
- Unpacking and storing food.
- Rotating stock and checking use-by dates.
- Keep the storeroom organised.
- Cleaning the kitchen floors and walls, fridges, ovens and work surfaces to ensure good hygiene.
- Clean food preparation areas and equipment, in addition to crockery and cutlery.
- Washing up, or operating the dish and glass-washing machines.
- Cleaning pots, pans and other equipment by hand.
- Ensure basic cleaning jobs are carried out as quickly as possible.
- Collecting and disposing of waste.
- Cleaning and cutting up vegetables, skinning and filleting fish, and chopping or mincing meat.
- Using equipment such as electric mixers, chipping machines and cutters.
- Making sandwiches, toast, soup, desserts, salads, tea and coffee.
- In addition to keeping the kitchen sparkling clean, you will be involved in food preparation.
- Ensure and maintain high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety.
Skills Required
- a good level of physical fitness, as you could be on your feet all day.

You’ll want bags of stamina and will enjoy the fast pace of working in a kitchen. You need to be able to stay calm and work as part of a team during a frenetic service.
