About the Role
Oshen builds autonomous ocean-sensing robots that spend months at sea, working in swarms to close a critical data gap in hurricane forecasting, offshore infrastructure monitoring, and maritime security.
We're looking for temporary contract technicians to join our team for a fixed-term.
Every unit you assemble gets deployed into open ocean, in real conditions, doing a job that matters. There's no popping back out to fix something once it's on station, so the work has to be right first time.
If you take pride in precision assembly, enjoy solving problems with your hands, and want to see the results of your work out in the field rather than sitting on a shelf, we'd like to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Assembling components and sub-assemblies to spec; hulls, fittings, onboard systems
- Basic mechanical and electrical fitting: motors, batteries, wiring
- Quality-checking completed assemblies before they ship
- Keeping accurate records; work orders, sign-offs, defect reports
This is a hands-on, workshop-based role so most of your week is spent building. But when a platform's ready, you'll be the one testing it at sea and feeding what you learn straight back into the next build.
What we're looking for
- 2-5 years' experience in a manufacturing or production environment (marine or general product manufacturing both welcome)
- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Confident with hand and power tools
- Comfortable being on the water (you don't need to be a sailor) but you do need to be at ease on small craft in variable weather
- Someone who thrives in a small close-knit team, this isn't a role where you disappear into a big process; what you build and test is directly visible
The details
- Standard days, 9-5, Monday to Friday
- Additional hours: Up to 60hrs a week at pro rated hourly rate
- Based at Turnchapel Wharf, Plymouth
- Initial phone interviews will commence from Tuesday 11th August
