Full Time 37.5 hours per week
Starting Salary from £77,259 FTE based on 37.5 hours per week
Part time roles will be considered between 0.8 to 1.0 FTE
This is a community post and requires travel between locations in Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire, although you will be working alongside other medics to minimise travel where possible. Reviews mainly take place face-to-face but there is an option for remote working 1-2 days per week.
You must be a driver with access to a vehicle.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated Speciality Doctor with substantial mental health expertise to gain experience that would be hard to find in other services. The Specialty Doctor will work 8-10 PAs from Monday to Friday, although we are also open to part-time applicants. They will work alongside another Speciality Doctor colleague, both supervised by a Consultant Psychiatrist. They will take a leadership role within a strong multi-disciplinary team, which includes Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists, a Dietician, Residential Managers and Support Workers. They will be supported to progress in their career. We prioritise the development of our staff with study leave available. Our consultant psychiatrist is experienced in supporting colleagues in achieving MRCPsych exams and/or supervising progress toward specialist registration via CESR route.
Essential Criteria:
- Full UK Driving License
- Medical Practitioner with GMC Full Registration
- Experience managing complex mental health presentations in community or in-patient settings
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and organisational abilities
- Leadership skills and ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of an MDT
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty under supervision of Consultant Psychiatrist
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of working with Complex Emotional Needs and complex trauma presentations
- Experience of working with eating disorders, in either an inpatient or community setting
- Knowledge or training in systemic models
- Knowledge or training in attachment disorders
- Knowledge or training in neurodevelopmental assessments
- Completed Core Psychiatry or GP Training with satisfactory ARCP
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or General Practitioners
- Approval under Sec 12 MHA 1983/current Approved Clinician Status
We are seeking a Speciality Doctor to join Care in Mind, a unique specialist mental health supported residential care service based in the North of England. Working with a range of young people and young adults between the ages of 16-30 years, who have complex mental health presentations including Complex Emotional Needs and Eating Disorders, with associated risk issues. Our CQC registered services are all provided in partnership with the NHS and local authorities.
Over the past 15 years we have built a reputation for working effectively with many complex young people, who have often spent long periods in hospital or secure care or have had multiple failed placements. We are proud of our outcomes in terms of working collaboratively with young people to stabilise them in placement, support them in reducing risks and work with them toward independence.
As a Speciality Doctor you will:
- Work closely with alongside the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, responsive and high quality care to our service users in a collaborative and person-centred manner
- Provide direct clinical assessment, formulation and psychiatric interventions to the service users within Care in Mind’s care
- Your day-to-day caseload will be centred around the residents of five residential homes, with five to six residents in each. In addition there may be small numbers of independence or in-reach placements. As such your caseload will not exceed 30 service users at any one time.
- Offer psychiatric consultation and advice to clinical and residential teams as appropriate
- Take a psychiatry lead role in monthly multidisciplinary reviews and 6 monthly CPA meetings for each of our service users, usually taking place in the residential home and often involving external professionals.
- To work into the Eating Disorder Service, reviewing physical health observations and investigations in line with MEED guidance, feeding into management plans as required
- Liaise with external professionals around risks and complex presentations of our young people
- Document notes from consultations and MDT discussions accurately and contemporaneously
- Provide prescriptions and GP letters in a timely manner following reviews to ensure minimal delays in the provision of indicated medication
- To maintain an overview of medication management plans, GP Letters, MHA and Mental capacity assessments
- Liaising with external physical health services such as GPs, AED departments and secondary care as required to ensure a joined up approach with our service with agreed management plans
- To undertake Mental Health Act recommendations where required (as per Section 12(2) status)
- Partake in Audit and Service Development in areas of interest
- Always maintain confidentiality and comply with Care in Mind’s Equal Opportunities Policy
