We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our small kitchen team running a new Mexican restaurant on Totnes high street! We are opening the space to offer delicious authentic Mexican flavours alongside a great drink offering including a range of tequilas and mezcals!
We’re looking for someone friendly, energetic, and a love of Mexican food is a must! This role would be perfect for someone who wants to immerse themselves in a different cuisine whilst working alongside a great team. We will focus on using local suppliers and seasonal ingredients combined with Mexican flavours.
The restaurant will be run by Carlos and Emily. Carlos, originally from Guadalajara, Mexico will be heading up the kitchen and Emily will be leading the front of house team.
The shifts will be a real mix as we will be opening for a brunch, lunch and an evening menu. We will also host regular pop up events.
Hours will be spread over a week from Wednesday – Monday with a mix of day times, evenings and split shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Carlos in managing daily kitchen operations and staff scheduling
- Input in menu development
- Supervise food production processes to ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards are met
- Lead by example in food preparation and cooking, demonstrating technical expertise and attention to detail
- Oversee food safety practices, sanitation procedures, and compliance with health regulations
- Manage team members by providing guidance, training, and constructive feedback to foster a collaborative environment
- Assist in inventory management, ordering supplies, and controlling food costs
- Serve as a key point of contact during service hours to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences
About You
- Previous sous chef experience essential
- Knowledge of Mexican food preferred but full training will be given
- Confident, friendly, and professional manner
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team
- Reliable and punctual
- Flexible to work weekends and busy periods
