Varsity Training is looking for an exceptional educational leader to lead curriculum, teaching and quality across our education apprenticeship provision.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and leader who is passionate about high-quality curriculum, evidence-informed teaching and developing other education professionals.
The role could particularly suit a current or former school or college leader, senior curriculum leader, ITT/ITE leader, teacher educator or experienced education consultant looking for a flexible, substantial part-time role.
The role
You will provide educational leadership across our education apprenticeship programmes, including Learning & Skills Teacher Level 5, Specialist Teaching Assistant Level 5 and our wider education provision.
You will also lead and line-manage members of our assessor and training team, establishing consistently high expectations for curriculum, teaching, assessment and apprentice development.
A significant initial priority will be leading the continued development and improvement of our Learning & Skills Teacher Level 5 apprenticeship, including curriculum redevelopment and preparation for future Ofsted inspection.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the design and implementation of ambitious, well-sequenced and research-informed apprenticeship curricula.
- Leading the redevelopment and implementation of our Learning & Skills Teacher Level 5 curriculum.
- Developing curriculum and quality across our wider education apprenticeship provision.
- Leading and line-managing assessors, trainers and teacher educators.
- Observing teaching and training and coaching colleagues to improve their practice.
- Developing effective approaches to apprentice teaching practice, observation, feedback and individual development planning.
- Leading the development and training of workplace mentors.
- Strengthening SEND, inclusion and adaptive teaching across our programmes.
- Ensuring apprentices effectively connect educational research and theory with professional practice.
- Monitoring apprentice progress and programme quality and intervening where improvement is required.
- Leading quality improvement and contributing to SAR and QIP processes.
- Working collaboratively with employers and partners, including schools, colleges and NHS organisations.
- Leading preparation for future Ofsted inspection and ensuring improvements are embedded and their impact demonstrated.
- Reporting on curriculum quality and improvement to Varsity's senior leadership team.
About you
We are looking for an excellent educationalist who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership.
You will ideally have:
- Significant successful teaching experience and QTS, QTLS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Successful leadership experience within education.
- Excellent knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.
- A strong understanding of evidence-informed teaching and learning.
- Experience of developing, coaching and managing teachers or other education professionals.
- Experience of observing teaching and providing high-quality developmental feedback.
- Strong knowledge of SEND, inclusion and adaptive teaching.
- Experience of leading educational improvement.
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently, take ownership and turn strategy into consistently strong practice.
Experience of ITT/ITE, Further Education, apprenticeships, Ofsted improvement, teacher development or NHS/healthcare education would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Previous experience working for an apprenticeship training provider is not required. We are particularly interested in finding an outstanding educational leader with the expertise and drive to develop people, curriculum and practice.
Working arrangements
This is a home-based role, initially for three days per week (0.6 FTE).
There will be occasional travel for team meetings and visits to employers and partner organisations. These may include schools, colleges, NHS organisations and other education settings.
We can offer flexibility around how the three working days are structured.
Salary
£45,000–£60,000 full-time equivalent, dependent on experience.
For a three-day/0.6 FTE appointment, this equates to £27,000–£36,000 per annum.
