This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day financial administration of the business, ensuring accurate record-keeping, effective financial controls, and timely reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with management, colleagues, and external accountants while also providing general office administration support where required.
The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience, be confident managing accounts independently, and be proficient in accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or similar systems.
Key Responsibilities
· Bookkeeping & Finance
· Manage and maintain accurate financial records using accounting software.
· Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions efficiently and accurately.
· Maintain accurate transaction entries in accordance with double-entry bookkeeping principles.
· Reconcile supplier, customer, bank, and credit card accounts.
· Manage customer account queries and resolve payment disputes.
· Carry out credit control activities and debt collection where required.
· Raise delivery notes, and sales invoices.
· Prepare VAT returns and assist with statutory financial reporting requirements.
· Produce financial reports, management summaries, and expenditure analyses.
· Support month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
· Prepare and organise documentation for audits and financial reviews.
· Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
· Complete Office for National Statistics (ONS) surveys and other compliance reporting as required.
· Assist the business in monitoring expenditure and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
· Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, policies, and procedures.
· Answer and direct telephone calls professionally.
· Provide administrative support to management and the wider team.
The successful candidate will have:
· Proven experience in a bookkeeping or finance role.
· Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial processes.
· Experience managing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
· Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.
· Excellent numeracy skills and attention to detail.
· Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
· Excellent organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· A proactive, flexible, and professional approach to work.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team.
· Commercial awareness and an understanding of cost control and business expenditure.
Desirable
· AAT qualification or equivalent accounting qualification.
· Experience preparing VAT returns.
· Experience within a manufacturing, engineering
· Payroll experience.
