This role is based in Bath City Centre, Radstock and Keynsham – occasion travel to SWA office in Swindon.

Job Purpose:
The service is intended to strengthen early intervention, prevention and recovery support for children and young people affected by domestic abuse, particularly those living in, moving into, moving on from, or otherwise linked to domestic abuse safe accommodation pathways.
- To provide support to children and young people who have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse in Bath and surrounding areas.
- To support and educate these children and young people about Domestic Abuse and Healthy Relationships.
- To establish and maintain effective relationships with key partners within safe accommodation, education, children services and other external agencies.
- To work with parents and external agencies to support the positive outcomes for children and young people who have experience of Domestic Abuse.

Main duties:
Managing service delivery and performance
- To work with children, young people and their parents to identify support needs, and to signpost or refer to other agencies as and when appropriate.
- To provide 1:1 support to children and young people who have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse in the BaNES community and surrounding areas.
- To plan and provide a programme of support for children and young people to be delivered in the education setting or a setting agreed with the Children and Families Manger.
- To work with children and young people identified as needing 1:1 support, helping them make sense of their experiences, to maximise their control over their own lives and develop alternative ways of problem solving and conflict resolution.
- To deliver targeted Healthy Relationships workshops in education settings, prioritising settings where eligible children and young people affected by domestic abuse and safe accommodation pathways are being supported.
- To increase children and young people’s understanding of healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, respect, coercive control, peer pressure and warning signs of unhealthy or abusive behaviour.
- To establish and maintain effective relationships with safe accommodation partners, educational establishments and other external agencies supporting children and young people
- To work with parents and professionals to ensure positive outcomes for children.
9. To strengthen schools’ and colleges’ confidence and consistency in recognising and responding to the needs of children affected by domestic abuse, where this supports eligible children and young people.
10. To contribute to a coordinated whole-family domestic abuse response, including safe links with victim/survivor support, safe accommodation provision and behaviour change pathways where appropriate.
- To create and keep up to date promotional material to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the work of the HOPE CYP team and SWA.
- To attend multi agency meetings, conferences, and community events to raise awareness on the work of SWA.
- To ensure clear, accurate, complete, and concise written records are kept on all support sessions and group activities within the child support service. This includes developing, monitoring and evaluation of work to evidence the effectiveness of the services provided and to continuously improve delivery.
- To remain up to date on child protection and safeguarding requirements, as well as SWA policies and procedures, bringing any concerns or issues immediately to the attention of managers.
General:
- There is no administrative support for this post and so it is important that the post-holder is self-servicing and that all information and administrative systems are kept up to date.
- To undertake risk assessments for all support to ensure that all health and safety requirements are met.
- To develop and prepare performance reports, including basic statistics relating to service activity, and its effectiveness, as required.
- To maintain good communication with families accessing the service, informing parents and staff of any incidents, and keeping accurate records of these.
- To identify, in conjunction with the Children and Families manager, training and development needs, and participate in training relevant to SWA’s commitment to providing high quality services.
- To work at all times with due regard to the policies and procedures of SWA, participating in their development and amendment where required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education and experience:
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with children and young people in a professional setting
- Good level of numeracy, literacy and report writing skills.
- Experience of public speaking and presenting to a variety of audiences.
Desirable
- Paediatric first aid certificate, or willingness to train.
- A Qualification relating to youth work or social care would be advantageous.
Knowledge:
- Awareness of domestic violence issues and its impact on children and young people.
- Awareness of issues that may impact on children and young people, experiencing or witnessing domestic violence and abuse.
- Evidence of a good understanding and knowledge of child protection and safeguarding issues with the ability to work within national, local and organisational policy and guidelines.
- A good understanding of health and safety requirements in providing services for children.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of service user involvement and the overall values of SWA.
Abilities, skills and personal qualities:
- Evidence of the ability to build and develop supportive relationships with children, young people and their safe parent while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ability to support, encourage and engage with children and young people.
- Evidence of delivering training and facilitation of group work.
- Strong commitment to partnership working with the ability to influence others.
- Evidence of ability to plan, work on own initiative and prioritise work in a busy environment.
- Ability to work flexibly and productively in a team environment.
- Evidence of the ability to be calm and resilient whilst under pressure, and to remain optimistic and persistent.
- Excellent communication skills.
Additional requirements:
- Successful candidate will be required to have an enhanced Criminal Barring Disclosure check prior to commencing work.
