Gastropub – Winchmore Hill, North London
We are a well-established, independent gastropub in Winchmore Hill, North London, known for our seasonal menus, quality British produce, and welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere. We are looking for an experienced and reliable Full-Time Sous Chef to join our kitchen team.
This is a key role within the business, suited to a confident chef who is comfortable running the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef and maintaining consistently high standards.
Duties
- Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring smooth workflow and high standards of food quality.
- Supervise and motivate kitchen staff, including junior chefs and kitchen assistants, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with menu specifications and presentation standards.
- Manage food production processes, including portion control, plating, and presentation to ensure consistency.
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations, including proper storage, handling, and sanitation practices.
- Support inventory management by monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering supplies as needed.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained in good working order and report any issues promptly.
About You
- Proven experience as aSous Chef (or a strong Senior Chef/CDP ready to step up)
- Confident leading a kitchen and making decisions independently
- Strong background in fresh, seasonal, gastropub-style food
- Calm, organised, and professional under pressure
- Reliable, flexible, and a strong team player
Required Certificates & Knowledge
- Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Allergen Awareness Training
- Good working knowledge of HACCP
- Up-to-date understanding of UK food safety and health & safety regulations
Requirements
- Proven supervising experience within a professional kitchen environment.
- Extensive experience in food preparation, cooking, and food production across diverse cuisines.
- Strong team management skills with the ability to lead by example and inspire staff.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene standards.
- Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is essential.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
