JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Kitchen Assistant – 0-24 hours per week
About the Role:
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly nursery team. You will support the preparation and delivery of healthy, balanced meals for young children, ensuring high standards of hygiene, safety, and care at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 0-4 years old
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment in line with food hygiene regulations
- Support stock rotation, storage, and basic inventory tasks
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Follow daily cleaning schedules and health & safety procedures
- Work collaboratively with nursery staff to meet children’s dietary needs
Allergy & Dietary Requirements:
A key part of this role is supporting children with allergies and specific dietary requirements. You will:
- Prepare and handle food carefully to avoid cross-contamination
- Follow individual allergy plans and dietary guidelines for each child
- Clearly label and store food appropriately
- Work closely with the nursery team to ensure all meals are safe, inclusive, and suitable for every child
Requirements:
- Previous kitchen or food preparation experience (preferred but not essential)
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Understanding of food safety and cleanliness standards
- Awareness of allergies and dietary requirements (training can be provided)
- A positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
