Working Foreman – Facades
Location: Liverpool
Company: CEJ Group
Job Type: Full-time / Contract
Role Split: Approx. 60% Hands-On / 40% Supervision & Management
Duration: Long-term project with potential for ongoing work
The Opportunity
CEJ Group is looking for an experienced and hands-on Working Foreman to join our team on a major fire stopping project in Liverpool.
This role would particularly suit someone from a joinery/carpentry background who has progressed into supervision but still enjoys being on the tools.
You will work directly alongside our Site Manager, helping manage the day-to-day delivery of the project while remaining actively involved with the works.
This is not a purely supervisory position. We are looking for someone who can lead from the front, support the trades on site and step into the practical work when required.
The role will be approximately 60% hands-on and 40% management/supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out hands-on fire stopping and associated works
- Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day running of the site
- Supervising and coordinating operatives and subcontractors
- Allocating and monitoring daily workloads
- Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and manufacturer requirements
- Monitoring quality and workmanship
- Assisting with QA inspections, photographic records and documentation
- Identifying defects and ensuring remedial works are completed
- Monitoring productivity and progress against programme
- Supporting site inductions, toolbox talks and daily briefings
- Ensuring RAMS and site health & safety procedures are followed
- Coordinating materials and ensuring trades have what they need to maintain productivity
- Maintaining good housekeeping and site standards
- Reporting progress, issues and resource requirements to the Site Manager
- Supporting snagging, completion and handover
Who We’re Looking For
Our preference is for someone with a strong joinery/carpentry background, ideally with experience in fire stopping, passive fire protection, fire doors or refurbishment works.
You should be comfortable both managing people and completing practical work yourself.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong joinery/carpentry background
- Previous Foreman, Supervisor or Working Supervisor experience
- Fire stopping/passive fire protection experience highly desirable
- Good understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to coordinate and motivate trades
- Good understanding of site health & safety
- Confident communication skills
- Ability to identify problems and resolve them quickly
- Reliable and organised approach
- Comfortable using smartphones/tablets for site records and QA documentation
- Ability to work closely with the Site Manager while taking responsibility for the workforce on the ground
Qualifications
Ideally candidates will hold:
- Valid CSCS card
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- First Aid
- Relevant joinery/carpentry qualification
- Passive fire/fire stopping training or certification would be advantageous
Applicants without all of the above may still be considered where they can demonstrate strong relevant experience.
What We’re Offering
This is an opportunity to join CEJ Group at the beginning of a substantial fire stopping programme, with the potential for continued work as our passive fire division grows.
We’re looking for someone who wants to become an important part of the delivery team rather than simply move from one short-term project to another.
