Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Finance & Compliance to lead financial management and regulatory adherence within our charity or Community Interest Company (CIC). This pivotal role involves overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and supporting organisational growth through sound financial planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, extensive knowledge of financial accounting and services, and a commitment to transparency and ethical practices in the charitable sector.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Operations
- Lead and manage end‑to‑end finance operations for the Charity/CIC.
- Oversee bookkeeping, monthly closing, reconciliations, and preparation of final accounts.
- Manage corporate tax, VAT, Gift Aid, and HMRC submissions.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and pension compliance.
- Maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports for leadership and trustees.
- Oversee accounts payable, supplier management, and cost‑control strategies.
- Monitor financial health and cashflow, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
Compliance, Governance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure full compliance with HMRC, Charity Commission, Companies House, and local council requirements.
- Manage AML compliance, fundraising regulations, donor due‑diligence, and financial risk assessments.
- Oversee statutory audit preparation and act as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Maintain compliance documentation, registers, governance frameworks, and internal controls.
- Stay updated on changes in charity/CIC financial regulations and implement policy updates.
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Support the Director and Trustees with financial strategy, forecasting, and long‑term planning.
- Lead annual budgeting, financial modelling, and scenario planning.
- Provide insights to strengthen organisational sustainability and funding strategy.
- Contribute to board meetings, presenting financial updates and compliance reports.
- Foster a culture of integrity, continuous improvement, and professional development within the finance function.
⭐ Donor Communication, Coordination & Fundraising Compliance
- Act as a key financial liaison for donors, grant‑makers, and funding partners.
- Ensure donor contributions are recorded accurately and reported transparently.
- Provide donors with financial updates, utilisation reports, and compliance documentation when required.
- Support donor engagement by ensuring financial clarity, accountability, and timely communication.
- Coordinate with fundraising teams to ensure all donor‑related activities meet AML, due‑diligence, and regulatory standards.
- Oversee financial aspects of grant applications, restricted funds, and donor‑funded projects.
- Maintain donor financial records and ensure compliance with reporting obligations.
Stakeholder & External Coordination
- Liaise with HMRC, auditors, banks, payroll providers, and regulatory bodies.
- Support fundraising teams with compliance checks, grant reporting, and financial due‑diligence.
- Work collaboratively across departments to ensure financial transparency and accountability.
- Build strong relationships with external partners, donors, and financial institutions.

Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
