About YorEnergy
YorEnergy is an end-to-end home energy efficiency and retrofit service, helping residents make confident and practical decisions about improving their homes.
Since launching in October 2024, YorEnergy has supported residents across York. We have already delivered more than 1,000 advice interactions and over 175 home energy assessments, building a strong and growing pipeline of retrofit activity.
We are now expanding across North Yorkshire and beyond.
Our ambition is to make home energy improvements easier to understand, access and complete. We bring together community engagement, impartial advice, home assessments, digital tools and a network of trusted suppliers, giving residents a clear route from their initial questions through to installation.
As YorEnergy grows, we want to bring more knowledge and expertise in-house, enabling us to support more residents, strengthen our service and help turn interest in home energy improvements into action.
This is an opportunity to join a growing and ambitious organisation and play a part in shaping the future of retrofit delivery across York, North Yorkshire and beyond.
The opportunity
As a Retrofit Adviser, you will often be the first person a resident speaks to about making improvements to their home.
How you communicate will be just as important as your technical knowledge. We are looking for someone who is warm, personable and genuinely interested in understanding each resident’s individual circumstances.
Every resident will have a different home, priorities, motivations and level of knowledge. You will listen carefully, understand what matters to them and help identify the measures most suited to their property and what they would like to achieve.
You may speak to someone whose main priority is reducing their energy bills, while another resident may be looking for a warmer home, lower carbon emissions, greater comfort or a long-term plan for their property. Your role will be to meet people where they are, help them understand the options available and give them the confidence to take the next step.
We are looking for someone with the passion and energy to encourage action while always putting the resident’s needs first.
What you’ll do
- Resident advice and engagement: Provide advice to residents across York and North Yorkshire by telephone, video and email. Develop a clear understanding of their home, priorities, motivations, budget and readiness to act, identifying suitable measures that align with their goals and supporting them to choose solutions that work for their circumstances.
- Clear retrofit guidance: Explain energy-efficiency measures in clear and accessible language, including insulation, ventilation, draught-proofing, heating systems and controls, heat pumps, glazing and solar PV. Help residents understand the likely costs, benefits, savings, limitations and appropriate sequencing of different measures.
- Funding and next steps: Identify possible eligibility for grant-funded routes and provide suitable signposting. Introduce general finance options where appropriate, without providing regulated financial advice, and agree and record an initial scope of works while clearly explaining the YorEnergy process.
- Progression and support: Help residents progress from initial interest through to supplier engagement and installation, continuing to answer high-level questions throughout their journey.
- Community delivery: Deliver accessible, face-to-face advice at community events and resident drop-ins, including at rural locations across North Yorkshire.
- Digital and CRM use: Use YorEnergy’s digital advice tools and customer systems to provide a consistent resident experience, maintaining accurate and timely CRM records, actions and follow-ups.
- Collaboration and improvement: Work closely with internal colleagues and the supplier network to support resident progression. Share recurring questions and barriers to help improve the customer journey, and contribute retrofit expertise to website content, guides, campaigns and wider communications.
What success looks like
- Resident experience: Residents feel heard, understood and supported, receiving clear and friendly guidance that builds trust and confidence.
- Tailored, relevant advice: Guidance reflects each resident’s home, priorities and motivations, ensuring that recommendations are practical, proportionate and appropriate for their circumstances.
- Clarity and confidence: Residents understand their options, including potential measures, funding routes and next steps, and feel confident making informed decisions.
- Progression to action: Enquiries progress smoothly from initial advice through to supplier engagement and completed retrofit measures and installations.
- Quality and integrity: Advice is accurate, impartial and provided within the boundaries of the role, underpinned by strong retrofit knowledge and a whole-house understanding.
- Digital delivery: Digital advice tools and CRM systems are used effectively to create a joined-up, efficient and consistent resident journey.
- Data and outcomes: Records and follow-ups are accurate and up to date, allowing customer progress and service impact to be tracked clearly.
- Reach and impact: YorEnergy continues to expand its reach across York and North Yorkshire, increasing engagement, assessments and successful retrofit outcomes.
What you’ll bring
- Qualifications and retrofit experience: A recognised Retrofit Adviser qualification aligned with PAS 2035, such as a Level 3 Award in Domestic Retrofit Advice, Green Deal Adviser qualification, City & Guilds Energy Awareness qualification, Retrofit Coordinator qualification or an accepted equivalent. You will also have experience providing energy, retrofit, housing or similar advice, alongside a good practical understanding of domestic energy efficiency and whole-house retrofit.
- Resident engagement and communication: A warm, personable and engaging communication style, with the ability to understand different resident needs, concerns and motivations. You will be passionate about helping people take action and confident explaining technical information without jargon by telephone, video, email and in person.
- Technical understanding and professional judgement: Strong practical knowledge of domestic energy efficiency and common retrofit measures, combined with sound professional judgement and an understanding of when a case should be referred to an Assessor, Retrofit Coordinator, designer, installer or another specialist.
- Digital tools, CRM and record keeping: Confidence using digital tools to support advice, customer engagement and decision-making, experience of using a CRM or similar customer-management system, and strong attention to accurate and timely record keeping.
- Organisation and working style: Strong organisational skills and an agile, adaptable approach. You will be able to respond positively as the service develops and work independently from home while remaining closely connected to the wider team.
- Mobility and travel: A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel throughout York and North Yorkshire for events, meetings and resident-engagement activities.
It would be an advantage if you also have
- Funding and retrofit policy knowledge: Knowledge of current domestic retrofit grants and funding routes.
- Resident and community engagement: Experience of community outreach, fuel-poverty support, housing, energy advice or a retrofit one-stop-shop service, together with experience contributing to public-facing content, workshops, webinars or campaigns.
- Buildings and local context: Knowledge of older and traditional buildings and an understanding of the particular needs of rural households.
- Wider application of expertise: Experience providing occasional energy-efficiency advice relating to community or commercial buildings.
