We’re recruiting an HR Business Partner to join Nottinghamshire County Council’s HR, Workforce and OD team. This is a key professional role, ideal for someone experienced in complex HR casework, organisational change, and employee relations within a large unionised environment.
About the Role
As an HR Business Partner, you’ll provide high‑level HR advice and support to managers and leaders, helping to implement the Council’s People Strategy. You’ll play a vital role in casework management, workforce change, and policy development, ensuring effective people management and organisational design.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing expert HR advice on attendance, performance, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and complex casework.
- Supporting hearings, appeals, and employment tribunals, including preparing documentation and acting as HR representative.
- Developing, reviewing, and implementing HR strategies and policies.
- Advising managers on restructures, staffing reductions, and TUPE processes.
- Leading designated HR policy areas, researching best practice, and monitoring employment legislation.
- Supporting schools with consultancy work, investigations, and sold HR services.
- Liaising and negotiating with trade unions through consultation processes.
- Delivering HR training, briefings, and coaching to managers and school leaders.
- Supervising HR Advisors and supporting their professional development.
- Analysing workforce data, identifying trends, and recommending interventions.
- Leading the HR Duty Desk on a rota basis.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone professional, resilient, and proactive, with strong HR expertise.
You’ll ideally have:
- GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above).
- Relevant HR qualification (MCIPD or equivalent, or working towards).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience providing HR support, advice, and guidance.
- Extensive experience of complex casework in a unionised environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, case law, and HR policy development.
- Experience of trade union consultation and negotiations.
- Ability to analyse complex information and provide risk‑assessed options.
- Experience of organisational change, workforce planning, and safeguarding.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and training delivery skills.
- Effective prioritisation and project management skills.
- ICT skills (Microsoft Office) and ability to analyse workforce data.
- Flexibility to attend hearings, deliver training, and travel across the county.
