Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Workshop Joiner & Fire Doorset Finisher to join our growing manufacturing team.
This role will focus on the manufacture, assembly, preparation and finishing of high-quality timber fire doors and certified fire doorsets. You will be involved throughout the manufacturing process, from preparing timber components and machining doors to assembling doorsets, fitting components and producing a high-quality painted or finished product ready for delivery.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in joinery, woodworking, manufacturing or spray finishing, with excellent attention to detail and pride in their workmanship. Experience working with fire doors, doorsets or certified products would be advantageous, although full training can be provided for the right person.
This is a hands-on workshop position within a busy manufacturing environment where accuracy, quality, consistency and attention to detail are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture and assemble FD30 and FD60 timber fire doors and doorsets to approved specifications and manufacturing requirements.
- Measure, cut, machine and assemble timber components accurately using hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery.
- Prepare door blanks, frames, linings, lippings and other components for manufacture.
- Carry out machining and preparation for hinges, locks, closers, seals, glazing and other doorset hardware.
- Assemble fire doorsets accurately, ensuring correct tolerances, dimensions and component positioning.
- Apply timber lippings, veneers and other finishing materials where required.
- Prepare doors and frames for painting, including sanding, filling, masking and surface preparation.
- Operate professional spray-painting equipment to achieve a high-quality, consistent finish.
- Mix and apply paints, primers and finishing systems in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
- Produce painted and finished doorsets to customer specifications, including RAL and bespoke colours.
- Carry out final finishing, touch-ups and quality-control inspections before products leave the workshop.
- Read and work from technical drawings, manufacturing specifications and job sheets.
- Ensure doors and doorsets are manufactured in accordance with the relevant certified construction and approved specifications.
- Maintain accurate workmanship and quality throughout the manufacturing process.
- Safely operate woodworking machinery, power tools, spray equipment and other workshop equipment.
- Keep the workshop clean, organised and maintained to a high standard.
- Assist with the loading, unloading and movement of timber, doors, frames and finished doorsets.
- Work as part of a manufacturing team to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in joinery, woodworking, doorset manufacturing, cabinet making or a similar workshop environment.
- Experience with spray painting, lacquer, primer and finishing systems would be highly advantageous.
- Good understanding of timber, veneers, hardwoods, softwoods and manufactured board products.
- Ability to accurately measure, mark out and work to tight tolerances.
- Competent use of hand tools and woodworking power tools.
- Ability to understand and follow technical drawings and manufacturing specifications.
- Good attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a manufacturing team.
- Good practical and mechanical understanding.
- Basic mathematical and measurement skills.
- Experience with fire doors or certified fire doorsets would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Experience using workshop machinery such as saws, sanders, routers, CNC machinery or edge-banding equipment would be beneficial.
- A positive attitude towards learning new manufacturing processes and developing technical skills.

You will be practical, reliable and organised, with a willingness to learn and develop your skills within a specialist manufacturing environment. You should be comfortable working with timber and workshop machinery and have an eye for detail when it comes to both construction and finishing.
Experience in fire-door manufacturing is desirable, but we are also interested in experienced joiners, cabinet makers, spray finishers and skilled workshop operatives who are looking to develop their career within the fire doorset manufacturing industry.
