TheWorkingPeople’sTheatre is a fast growing theatre company built on the belief that theatre should be for the community, by the community. Our commercial training arm, Theatricom, delivers immersive and improvisation based corporate training to organisations across the UK. We are a values led business with a social mission rooted in community access, inclusion, and support for the freelance theatre market.
We are scaling quickly, with a growing team across corporate partnerships, learning and development, digital, and charity and participation. We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to help us build the people foundations that match our ambition.
The Role
As HR Manager, you will own the people function across TheWorkingPeople’sTheatre. You will work closely with our founder and our finance lead to make sure our growing team is properly supported, contracted, and set up for the long term.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, issue, and manage employment contracts across the team
- Lead the process of converting commission based roles to salaried positions as the business scales
- Build and manage onboarding processes for new starters
- Support performance management, sick leave, and any people related issues as they arise
- Work with the founder and finance lead to align people plans with company growth
- Support Hiring of Faciltators across our Theatricom, Charity and Learning arms ensuring that checks such as DBS, Social Media and Right to work are completed.
- Help shape company culture and HR policy as the team grows
About You
- Proven HR management experience, ideally within a small or scaling business
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and contracts
- Comfortable working closely with a founder in a fast moving, hands on environment
- Love of the theatre and a great communicator.
- Experience managing commission to salary transitions is a strong plus
- Aligned with our social mission and values around community, access, and inclusion

- All current team contracts reviewed and formalised
- Commission to salary conversion process fully documented and on track for September
- Onboarding process built and used for at least one new starter
- Right to work checks and compliance basics in place across the team
- Strong working relationship established with the founder and finance lead
- A clear view of upcoming people priorities as the team continues to grow
