No time wasters please. Only apply if you are interested in more than just the rate of pay. It would be appreciated by the family if you would read the job description in its entirety before an application is made.
We are looking for female support workers with driving licence who are trustworthy, conscientious, caring, and committed applicants to add to our current client care team. The rate of pay offered is reflective of the standard of applicant we are looking to attract. The role is in a position of trust within a family home. All care is privately funded by the client, so a very competitive rate can be offered in appreciation of the high standard of care required. We are seeking to fill a permanent position of two waking nights (8 hours per shift) and are also looking to add to our bank roster with the potential to cover both day or night shifts, as well as any annual leave of the existing staff.
Applicants must have a good understanding of working in a private family home, noting it is still a place of work, with a high level of professionalism being maintained at all times. Staff should be caring, considerate, and make the care they provide centred around the client's needs and known wishes, not their own views of best practice.
It is key to not be intrusive on the family in their home space, but still be able to support the client's needs when he accesses those areas. We offer a pleasant work environment, looking after a very much-loved member of family. The client is of good physical health and character, is able to transfer with assistance of one, walks with a frame and even attends a gym. The client is able to communicate in numerous ways but is unable to speak due to a brain injury. It is easy to understand and anticipate his needs once trust and familiarity have been established. No medication is taken currently.
Assistance is needed with food, drink, personal care, toileting, changing TV (forwarding adverts), and keeping the surroundings clean and tidy. Double-up support can be required on certain community outings. Staff are expected to remain awake throughout the duration of night shifts, as the client can have a disrupted sleep pattern and may wake startled, needing reassurance. In these instances, sometimes a drink or bathroom visit may be needed, or occasionally just the duvet untangling, for example.
The client requires constant respect, consideration, attention to detail, and most importantly, not to have choices removed. The role is not overly physical, but it is demanding as the client needs to be observed 24/7. This is achieved with the help of a CCTV system situated in the staff office accessed via a tablet. The client is very easy going, amenable, and helpful where possible. We offer a good work environment, with the opportunity to work as part of a very strong and devoted team. It should be noted that the family is always on hand for guidance and assistance and continues play an active role in the client's care. The family also has two large dogs whom any successful applicants will be required to make friends with. The dogs love a fuss and a treat, so it is not usually a problem introducing new team members to the household.
