Our ghosts are made by hand using techniques that ensure each York Ghost is a true original. Ghost making is at the heart of the business.

At the York Ghost Merchants we are passionate about our craft and proud of our outstanding reputation. We seek an enthusiastic and hardworking candidate to join our growing retail team, with both part-time and full-time positions available.
The retail shops are at the forefront of our business, with many customers journeying far and wide to purchase one of our original, handmade York Ghosts. Our original shop at No.6 Shambles is sited on an extremely busy foot-street, staff are required to meet, greet and manage the queues which gather outside the shop. We expect only the best customer service from our shop merchants, always giving a warm, friendly welcome and showing enthusiasm and knowledge about our handmade ghosts. Given the customer focussed nature of our business, while not essential, we would love to hear from any candidates with acting experience or who may have worked in busy visitor attractions / experiences. Ideal candidates will also be comfortable working in a faced paced retail environment and have good interpersonal skills.

Part Time Seasonal staff (September / October to Christmas Eve) Various hours available.

Please note that applicants must be willing to work weekends, some bank holidays as well as over school holiday periods.
Days off will be arranged on an ongoing basis as part of the scheduling, in agreement with the Retail Manager.

Contract: Fixed Term.
Pay: £13 per hour under probation (minimum 2 months. May be extended if required). Increasing to £14 per hour after probation.
Expectations and Duties
· Flexible approach and willingness to work at any of our three city centre retail sites.
· Comfortable dealing with queues and interacting with customers who may be waiting in line.
· A confidence to work in a customer facing role as part of a fast-paced retail business where high levels of customer care are expected.
· Ability to work as part of a growing team of Ghost merchants
· Willingness to wear Merchant attire in accordance with our shoe and costume policies
· Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions
· Cash handling and till operation ( training provided )
· To gain knowledge of the business and Ghosts which can be imparted to the customers
· Willing to undertake some of the workshop finishing tasks.
