Development Lead (Small Supports)

Small Supports organisations are being developed Nationally (see NDTi Small Supports Programme). Let’s Belong (www.letsbelong.org) is a fledgling Small Supports organisation that the Board are looking to further Develop. It is based in Surrey.
We are looking for an enthusiastic leader to progress the development of the organisation.
This post is flexible and the full role will be discussed and agreed with the selected candidate, allowing them the opportunity to bring their own ideas and suggestions to developing and shaping this exciting position.
We are a person-centred small supports organisation committed to driving change through the expansion of our provision of bespoke services.
We are looking to foster real relationships, shaped around (gloriously) ordinary lives, whilst including individuals and their families in our creative plans.
We have started with one person. Our first priority for this new role is to make sure this person has support in his local area that works for him, builds on what is already good, brings in additional local relationships and opportunities, and does not rely entirely on family members to hold everything together.
But our ambition is wider than one person. So, part of this role is to grow the organisation and help create a small, high-quality, relationship-based support service in Surrey for other people with learning disabilities, including people using direct payments or personal budgets.
This may suit you if you are:
- an experienced practitioner, team leader or manager in learning disability/autism support
- good at your job, but frustrated or not wishing to be constrained by traditional care models
- able to build trust slowly and respectfully
- practical enough to coordinate support, but reflective enough to challenge systems
- interested in helping build something better locally in Surrey
- prepared to get your sleeves rolled up
Your skills:
- The ability to understand and listen, communicate clearly and appreciate the feelings and wishes of others
- The ability to build and nurture relationships and be passionate about working with people and their communities
- The ability to think progressively with values of inclusion at centre of decision making
- Be creative, a good problem solver
- Be, or want to be, a social entrepreneur
How this could work
We are open to part-time or full-time employment, phased involvement, consultancy, secondment or another flexible arrangement.
We are not beginning with a formal application form or conventional interview process. We are starting with conversations. If there seems to be a good fit, we will share an information pack and arrange an initial video conversation. Remuneration will reflect the seniority, experience and responsibility required and will be as strong as we can reasonably afford.
