Genealogical Researcher (Part Time) Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, Canterbury

The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies is looking for an experienced genealogical researcher to join its Canterbury team.
You will be a first point of contact for client commissions in genealogy, heraldry and historical enquiry for the Institute. Work will include archives, palaeography, and primary sources. You will report findings clearly, keep to professional and ethical standards, and use the Institute’s library and collections. Where necessary you will disburse client work to other researchers from our approved list, maintaining oversight of the reports produced. You may also contribute research to IHGS educational programmes and, when asked, support publications or outreach.
The role
- Two days a week, both days in the office in Canterbury
- Flexible start and finish times around core hours of 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00
- Additional hours may be available at the standard hourly rate. Such additional work might be done remotely.
- 10 days paid annual leave plus pro-rata bank holidays
- Three-month probation
What we need
- Proven professional genealogy experience; genetic genealogy an advantage
- Confidence with archives, palaeography and primary sources
- Clear written reports and good client communication
- Membership of AGRA or a similar body is desirable
- Ability to work accurately, independently and as part of a small team
