Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and creative Freelance Social Media & Digital Communications Officer to enhance our organisation’s online presence. This role offers flexible, remote working opportunities and is ideal for individuals with a passion for public relations and social media management. We're looking for a creative, enthusiastic and organised Freelance Social Media & Digital Communications Officer to help us tell our story, celebrate our impact and increase awareness of the vital work we do. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engaging digital content, managing social media platforms, and fostering positive relationships with our community through effective communication strategies.
Duties
- Develop and implement innovative social media campaigns across various platforms to promote organisational initiatives and events across the charity website, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn.
- Manage daily social media activities, including content scheduling, posting, and engagement with followers.
- Monitor social media channels to respond to comments, messages, and enquiries promptly and professionally.
- Create compelling digital content such as graphics, videos, and blog posts that align with the charity's branding and messaging.
- Analyse digital engagement metrics to assess campaign effectiveness and inform future strategies to grow our online presence.
- Support in drafting press releases, newsletters, and other public relations materials to enhance organisational visibility.
- Collaborate with Charity Manager to ensure consistent messaging across all digital platforms.
- Stay informed about emerging trends in social media management and digital communications to keep strategies current.
- Produce occasional short videos and reels.
- Promote Well for Life services, events and campaigns.
- Raise awareness of HIV and help reduce stigma through positive messaging.
- Celebrate the achievements of our clients, volunteers and organisation (while maintaining confidentiality).
- Support fundraising campaigns and community events.
- Work collaboratively with the Charity Manager to produce a monthly content plan.
- Provide a brief monthly report summarising social media performance.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in social media management and digital communications.
- Strong understanding of public relations principles and best practices.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to craft engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.
- Experience using Canva, WordPress and/or similar design software.
- Proficiency in using social media management tools and analytics platforms.
- Creative flair with an eye for visual design; experience with graphic or video editing software is desirable.
- Organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently within deadlines.
- Knowledge of organisational branding guidelines and communication policies.
- Previous experience working remotely or as a freelancer is advantageous but not essential.
- Understanding of confidentiality and GDPR.
- Reliability and professionalism.
Desirable
- Experience working with charities or community organisations.
- Experience creating video content or reels.
- Basic photography skills.
- Knowledge of HIV, sexual health or public health issues.
- Experience using scheduling platforms such as Meta Business Suite or Buffer.

Contract Details
- Average of 3 hours per week (approximately 12 hours per month).
- £20 per hour.
- Self-employed/freelance basis (the successful applicant will be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance).
- Initial 12-month agreement, subject to review and continuation of funding.
- Hours may be worked flexibly by agreement, with occasional attendance at Well for Life events and meetings.
