Weekend Imam (Part-Time)
UKIM Sparkbrook Islamic Centre & Masjid is seeking a knowledgeable, dedicated and inspiring Weekend Imam to serve our growing community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the five daily prayers on weekends.
- Deliver the Friday Khutbah (if required).
- Conduct Islamic classes and reminders for children, youth and adults.
- Provide basic Islamic guidance and pastoral support to members of the community.
- Assist with Nikah, Janazah and other religious services when required.
- Support the Masjid's educational and community programmes.
- Represent the Masjid with professionalism, good character and excellent Islamic etiquette.
Essential Requirements
- Graduate (Alim) from a recognised Islamic institution.
- Excellent Qur'an recitation with Tajweed.
- Ability to deliver engaging talks and lectures in English (Urdu is desirable).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS Check and comply with UK safeguarding requirements.
Desirable
- Previous experience serving as an Imam in the UK.
- Experience working with young people and community organisations.
- Understanding of safeguarding and British Muslim community issues.
Salary

- Collaborate with colleagues to plan programs that promote inclusivity, safety, and fun
- Support families through compassionate communication and resource sharing related to hospice care when applicable
- Assist in fundraising efforts by participating in community events and outreach initiatives
- Maintain detailed records of activities, progress reports, and care plans to ensure transparency and accountability
Skills
- Proven experience working with children in educational or caregiving settings
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and inspire others
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with children, families, and team members effectively
- Demonstrated ability to mentor peers and guide children through developmental challenges
- Knowledge of hospice care principles is a plus for supporting terminally ill children or families
- Ability to organize activities, manage time efficiently, and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Passion for teaching, fundraising experience is advantageous for community engagement efforts
