We are now looking for an experienced Head Baker to lead and develop our bakery operation. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented baker with strong management skills, a passion for innovation, and a warm, attentive personality to shape a key part of our business.
About the Role
As Head Baker, you will oversee all aspects of our bakery production, ensuring that every product meets the highest standards of quality, consistency, and presentation. You will work closely with the kitchen and leadership team to create an inspiring bakery offering that reflects the premium yet approachable character of No. Forty Nine.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily bakery operation, including production planning and scheduling.
- Develop and maintain a range of artisan breads, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods.
- Ensure exceptional quality, consistency, and attention to detail across all products.
- Inspire, train, and manage a small bakery team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and stock control.
- Contribute creative ideas for seasonal products, menu development, and bakery specials.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Head Baker, or in a similar leadership role within a quality bakery, café, or restaurant.
- Strong knowledge of artisan bread production, laminated pastries, viennoiserie and cakes.
- A creative approach to baking, with the ability to bring fresh and exciting ideas to our offering.
- Excellent organisational and management skills, with experience leading and motivating a team.
- A calm, attentive, and approachable personality with a genuine passion for hospitality.
- High standards of cleanliness, food safety, and attention to detail.
- The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining consistency and quality.
