Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Sea Freight Import Clerk to join our logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing import shipments via sea freight, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and maintaining seamless communication with clients and carriers. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise within the supply chain and logistics sector, working in a dynamic environment that values precision and efficiency.
General Duties
- Dealing with agents, pricing teams, and internal colleagues to obtain job charges.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety relating to your role, site, and colleagues.
- Undertake other responsible tasks that may be required from time to time as directed by your line manager.
- Liaise regularly with overseas offices, partners, agents, and clients.
- Sourcing supplier costs.
- Update systems with shipment and costing information as required.
- Keeping a record of charges and current rates in place for certain customers.
- Ensure customers are invoiced in a proactive timely manner and within a certain timeframe.
- Support the sea import department where required on daily operational tasks.
- Handling sea imports from start-finish
- Dealing with customer queries and complaints
- Raise invoice to finalise job files, sending invoices via Email, Post or any method customers require.
- Liaising with other company branches to obtain best outcome for the business on rates and customer service
- Completing customs Import entries on in-house systems linking with HMRC
- Review and prepare all relevant documentation for all aspects of the transportation of goods
Requirements
- Experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably within sea freight import operations.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems
- Strong understanding of international shipping procedures, customs clearance processes, including FDA regulations.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Effective negotiation skills for rate discussions with carriers and logistics providers.
- Proficiency in data entry with a high degree of accuracy; ability to interpret complex documentation.
- Good communication skills to liaise confidently with clients, carriers, customs authorities, and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Working hours Mon-Friday 9am to 5:30pm.
Once the probation period has been completed, the successful candidate will be able to join our work from home scheme, allowing one day per week to work from home.
Pay: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
