Kitchen Assistant (Adults Establishment) - Fixed-Term
Hours: 35 Hours Per Week
Work Pattern: Monday to Friday / varied shifts as required
Contract: Temporary – 6 Week Cover (ASAP, target start date: 31 August 2026)
We're recruiting a Kitchen Assistant to join an adult social care establishment in Sandy, Central Bedfordshire. This is a practical, hands-on role, ideal for someone reliable, organised, and experienced in a kitchen or catering environment who can support the preparation and serving of meals within an adult care setting.
About the Role:
As a Kitchen Assistant, you'll support the kitchen team with the preparation and serving of meals, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety. You'll work as part of the wider care and support environment, helping to ensure meals are prepared and served safely and efficiently.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals within an adult social care establishment
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and food preparation areas
- Washing and cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces
- Following food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures
- Supporting the kitchen team with general duties as required
- Working effectively as part of the wider care and support environment
- Undertaking manual and practical duties as required to maintain a clean and safe working environment
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone dependable, practical, and organised, with previous experience working in a kitchen or catering environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or catering environment
- Understanding of basic food hygiene and kitchen safety
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
- Good organisational skills and a reliable approach to work
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to undertake manual duties and maintain a clean, safe working environment
Nice-to-have:
- Experience working in an adult social care, care home, or similar setting
- Food hygiene training or certification
- Experience preparing and serving meals for larger groups
