We are seeking a Project Estimator to join a growing team supporting the delivery of high-volume projects across a major UK government estate. This permanent role has been created as part of the expansion of the DWP Variable Works project team and will play a key role in ensuring projects are commercially viable, accurately priced, and compliant with contractual requirements.
Job Description
We are seeking a commercially aware professional with construction estimating, quantity surveying, cost control, or commercial management experience. Working within a hybrid model, you will support a wide range of projects including HVAC, fit-outs, building fabric works, refurbishments, and asset replacement programmes across the UK.
Key Responsibilities

Review and analyse third-party project cost estimates to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and schedules of rates.
Assess project costs across HVAC, fit-out, alteration, and building fabric projects.
Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Calculate and validate labour, material, plant, transport, and equipment costs.
Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
Produce detailed cost breakdowns, pricing schedules, and project summaries.
Review technical drawings, specifications, and take-offs to develop accurate estimates.
Support bids, tenders, commercial submissions, and final project quotations.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
Skills & Experience
Essential
Proven experience in project cost control, estimating, quantity surveying, or commercial management within construction or facilities management environments.
Experience managing or overseeing project budgets exceeding £1 million.
Strong understanding of construction processes, including HVAC, fabric, and fit-out projects.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
Strong commercial awareness and analytical capability.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Competence with project management and estimating software.
Full UK driving licence.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications may include:
HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying
