Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Steel Fixer to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing and securing reinforcement steel in various building projects, ensuring structural integrity and safety standards are met. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects within the construction industry, contributing to the successful completion of high-quality structures. Applicants should possess a strong understanding of steel reinforcement processes, safety procedures, and have experience working with a range of tools and techniques relevant to the trade.
Duties
- Read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications to determine reinforcement requirements.
- Measure, cut, bend, and assemble steel reinforcement bars using hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment.
- Secure reinforcement in position by tying with binding wire or welding as required.
- Assist with the installation of formwork and support structures to hold reinforcement in place.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, building codes, and project specifications.
- Collaborate with other trades such as carpenters, masons, and roofers to coordinate activities on-site.
- Maintain a clean work environment by organising tools and materials efficiently.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks safely and effectively during reinforcement installation.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in welding, using hand tools, power tools, and other relevant equipment.
- Mechanical knowledge related to reinforcing steel installation processes.
- Skills in carpentry, roofing, masonry or related trades are advantageous.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Valid driving licence for commercial driving tasks is desirable but not essential.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations on construction sites.
- Physical fitness to work in demanding environments with prolonged periods of standing or heavy lifting.
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail for precise measurements and installations.
